Need Help With My Engine

Recommended Posts

Hey guys my first post.

I own a 2003 4x4 gmc 1500 with the 5.3 engine. im looking for more power! i have a set of gm fastburn heads off a 1994 chevy laying around.. with these fit on my truck? also im wondering what would be better, to get power from heads and cam, or just buy a sts turbo or supercharger. I live where there is lots of snow and harsh conditions and my truck is a daily driver.

Thanks alot.

...Those heads won't work on the 5.3. I'd supercharge the factory setup (depending on miles), or yank the 5.3 and build it for more power. Either way won't come cheap.

In harsh conditions I'd go with a roots super charger or a front mount turbo kit. Those are upwards of 7 grand when everything is said and done. A heads and cam swap can be had for $2,000+. With the right combo that can come out to +100RWHP and still retain good driveability.

I should put 300HP to the wheels with a tune & long tube headers with my cam. Stock HP @ the rear wheels would have been around 230 or 240.

thanks for the help, my best bet would to just do engine mods then... the only reason i mentioned the sts kit is a buddy of mine has it for sale for $1500. im just not sure how it would hold up in mud and snow! any ideas for a heads and cam combo?
