I Need Help!

I've really been thinking lately about trucks in general and what do I need a truck for? An SUV would certainly be a better alternative, seeing as I really have no use for a bed. Here are the things that have been getting to me:

  • Not a whole lot of room for giving rides,
  • Not very fast unless I put a lot of nonexistent money into it,
  • Difficult to park in smaller parking lots and impossible to park in parking garages around here,
  • Not very good at offroading, and
  • Serious gas guzzlers.

Don't get me wrong, I know these things are general characteristics of trucks, but most cars can do many of the things that I use my truck for and many times they can do them better. I've just been debating with myself lately if I was in another parallel universe, that I would be better off having a car. If anyone has anything to say that could help remind me of why I am such a hardcore truck guy, please speak up.

Id go with 50 percent of your problem is/// Its lifted with big tires and has a ram bar on the front that adds an extra foot of pickup.

Your pickup should be a whole lot better at offroad than a tahoe would be.

Do what I did, Go with a z71 RCSB and get a tonneau cover if you have too!

1. GIRLS in the south absolutley LOVE them

2. You feel like a true American and a man

3. If your concerned with room, look in a quad cab short bed z71

4. You use your bed. Beleive me. How about mulch when spring comes? House stuff, helping friends out, getting some people unstuck in various situations.

I don't know man, you really do live life once, thats why I don't carer about gas money and want to enjoy my truck!

As a Hardcore Truck guy who's been COUPED up in a 2-door Front Wheel Drive COUPE. Let me reach out to a Brother!

  1. Giving rides to more than 2 people isn't really all that fun.

  2. What do you really need speed for? I'd give up speed in a heartbeat if my rig makes me happy to drive it.

  3. Parking? All I can say is practice makes perfect!

  4. You're joking right? "You're killing me Smalls!"

  5. Unfortuneately, That's the one thing I can't offer Rebuttal to, you're gonna have to come to grips with that yourself.

:)

At some point after you lose that Bed, you'll miss it like you wouldn't believe.

Hey - SOME people are just truck naturals... and some are not.

I'll give up my truck when the gas runs out... after I kill a group of tree hugging fruitcakes on bicycles with it at 80 miles per hour. Then I'll come out shooting.

Yeah... I like to keep em guessing. It's been long then short for years! There is an updated (with haircut) pic there now. But it really is me.

Small sports cars are great if you want to go fast all the time. But for a nice comfortable, "practical," and flexible vehicle, with a respectable amount of power, trucks are great. I actually felt my SUV was too practical, so I pulled the 3rd row, put a weathertech mat back there, and turned it into a 4 seater. If need to haul more than 3 people, they can take their own ride. :)

I've actually always found trucks easier to drive, or at least backup, than SUV's. Next vehicle very well may be a truck, but I had always wanted a YD, so that's what I got! However, I will admit that a mid-size car can be the best of both worlds. Still comfortable, descent amount of room, easier to drive around town, and way better mileage. So it's really all about what you want/need.

I wrestled with the decision as well. There's no getting around the gas mileage of a large v8 vehicle. but consider this in real-world scenerio. let's say you need to commute 50 miles a day. at 50 mpg for a prius - you burn $3 a day. in a truck - figure you's get 16.6 mpg - or 1/3 the mileage. that means $9 a day. that equivaltes to ~$1600 a year difference. now consider the common alternative, 2 vehicles. say you buy a $5000 car - decent, used, but reliable. it would take 3 years to pay that off in terms of gas alone - now add maintenance and insurance - it takes 5 years. you'll likely be trading in the truck at that point anyway. by simply bringing in lunch - I saved over 1000 last year by my calculations.

Ok that sounds kinda po-poey but now factor in the fact that since I bought my truck, I got a boat, took 3 trips camping with the kids. took a (off road) trip into South Dakota, and never lost a day of work due to weather, and have been able to haul everything I needed for house remodeling, odds and ends, and was able to pick up a real sweet couch and dining set because I happened to be able to haul it on the spot. not to mention I got more action from the GF (now fiance) than I ever got in any car. You can have my truck keys when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.

you shouldn't be asking yourself if you should keep a truck

you should be asking yourself "WTF good is a SUV?"

useless as s**t unless you always drive around with 7 friends

I think that maybe two people have sat in the back of my SUV since I bought it (almost 2 years ago).

Doesn't mean it's no good. It's a hoot.
