WELL I HAVE A 2003 SIERRA 1500, HAS ANYONE INSTALLED A HID UPGRADE TO THESE STOCK LIGHTS? IF SO DO YOU HAVE PICS OF IT. I WAS WONDERING WITH THE HID UPGRADE ON STOCK HEADLIGHTS, DOES IT CREATE ANY GLARE ISSUES FOR ONCOMING DRIVERS. I WAS WONDERING IF HID UPGRADE INTO STOCK HEADLAMPS WOULD BE DOT APPROVED OR IF IT WOULD PASS INSPECTION. I THOUGHT THAT INSTALLING HID LIGHT INTO A HALOGEN TYPE HEADLIGHT WOULD CREATE GLARE OR IN PROPER LIGHT PATTER. IF YOU HAVE A TRUCK LIKE MINE AND DID A HID UPGRADE PLEASE POST PICS ON IT THANKS(AND WHAT TYPE OF KIT YOU GOT AND COST).

The ONLY way to be a true HID light and to be DOT compliant would be to swap a set off a Denali. The kits off ebay and the such are not legal and are not true HID. You are correct, you just cant swap bulbs in a "halogen type headlight". The headlight has to have the projection lense set up as well as the HID bulb.

WILL THE DENALI HEADLIGHTS FIT MY GMC? YOU HAVE A LINK TO WHERE I CAN GET THEM?

ALSO I DID NOT KNOW THAT DENALI'S CAME WITH HID UPGRADE OPTION.

Draenor is right in a sense that they will not be DOT approved. But wrong in the fact that HID lights have to be in a projector lens set up. Many cars today including Lincoln, Toyota, Acura and Mercedes still do not have all of the HID in projector lens but are still legal. I have seen many GMC Sierras with your styling with HID on the road. They do produce a slight glare but nothing that is horrific. I have seen olders cars with halogens that produce more glare since they are not aligned. Just make sure you keep them aligned and it shouldn't be too bad. I am not sure how strict your inspections are but many people have gotten their trucks inspected with HIDs.

Why do i care what the DOT considers legal? And not to sound like a jerk, but my glare in your eyes effects me how? like i said not to be a jerk but everytime someone even mentions HID lights a certain elite member spouts off about the DOT and glare, and i mean EVERYTIME this is brought up. Im sure most of our bumber heights, exhaust regs, etc do not match DOT regs, but god give it a rest with the oooo those are not true HID projection lens yada yada crap, everytime someone posts on this topic, its getting kinda old. :D

Well said. I agree... Especially if you crash into someone and that someone has a good lawyer that sues you and mentions that your defective / illegal headlights were a contributing cause of the wreck. Not worth the hassle just to have pretty blue lights in my opinion.

Not to sound like a jerk (sound familiar) , but you come at me with your out of spec HID's on and I will come at you with my brights on, and lets see who crashes first....OK

I hate those things and hope they will soon make them illegal....period.
