The place you tinker with your trucks

I was wondering where everyone works on their trucks.  I use our garage, sometimes the 3car garage.  Also what kind of tools does everyone use?  I suspect mostly craftsman?  Do you carry your tools in your truck?  Leave them in the garage?  Basement?  Barn? What do you keep in your truck? (I keep a 4 way lug wrench, hi jack lift, 50,000lb tow strap and my tool set)

Just wondering.......

Things i added to it: 7/8 socket/breaker bar for the wheel lugs, tow strap, gerber utility plyers, 2 maglights one big and one small, plyers, screw drivers

Future plans: black diamond plate toolbox for the bed and ill add a jack (3 ton?) and the rest of my stash mainly in case of emergencys

I usually work in my garage. It really depends on what I'm doing. When the weather is nice and I'm soing a small job, i'll do it outside. Light is usually better. I have set of Proto tools.

Our 50x100 Morton building is where we keep all ours tools, dad has his in one corner, I have mine in the other.  Don't do much work on the truck, but when something has to be worked on we have a nice concrete pad right inside the door that we poured a few years back that usually works well.  Most of the other repair work on our stuff is usually done on site, be it in the middle of a field, barnyard, or side of the road (95% of the time a tire blowout).

Tools that stay in the truck toolbox all the time are a set of sockets, couple adjustable wrenches, clevis, towstrap, and hitchpins and balls, among all our cattle working stuff (which most of it is).

My tools are a mix of many companies.  I have a nice Waterloo toolbox on castors to keep most of them in.  My tools stay in the shed all the time and are used there.  Dad has a set of Craftsman tools that he keeps in a portable toolbox, they go to the field with us in repairs.  We also have several cheap Chinese made toolsets that we keep in each tractor, no need to buy expensive stuff for that since it seems to "walk away."

I usually work in the garage...

Most of my tools are Craftsman, but if I need any new ones I usually go to Walmart and buy the Popular Mechanics brand because they are cheap and they offer a lifetime warranty...

I'm usually in the garage all the time anyway.  Either working on the bike, lawn tractor or the trucks.  I carry a Craftsman tool set under the seat like Ryan, and have a craftsman puoch for all my emergency stuff (ratchet straps, tow straps, tire guage, etc.)

I'm not lucky enough to have a garage yet, so i do all my work on my carport.  I have quite a few tools that are mostly Craftsmans, the Popular Mechanics brand that Shaners mentioned, some K-Mart brand called Benchtop which are actually pretty good tools with a lifetime warranty, and some other odd and end brands that i can't remember.  I keep some pretty basic stuff in my truck like screwdrivers, a few common sized wrenches, pliers, some sockets and ratchets.  There is one thing I carrying in my truck tool box that I started carrying when my son was just a baby and it has come in handy a few times.  I took a small baby food jar (after he eat all te food of course) and put some hand cleaner in it so I can clean my hands up if I have to do something while traveling.

I bet its RED hand cleaner, right Tom?

Any "work" on my truck has to be done on the driveway.  Old house with 1948 one car garage which houses a lawn tractor.  Couldnt get the truck in it if I tried.  My light assortment of mechanical tools are Craftsman for the most part.  (I'm a woodworking guy more than mechanic, plenty of wood stuff-table saw, chop saw,  drill press, routers, etc).  Dont carry anything in the truck right now besides the decal with the 1-800-GMC # although that will change as soon as the warranty goes.

I work in my two-car garage, although since the Corvette is usually in there I work on the truck in the driveway, lot's more room out there.

I have mostly Craftsman tools, started collecting them in high school and have a pretty good assortment now.  I like to buy new specialty tools whenever needed on project, such as new sockets, longer/shorter screwdrivers, etc.  I leave the good stuff at home locked in the garage, and have a small toolbox full of "cheapy" wrenches that I keep in the Suburban most of the time.  Don't carry much else, although I used to keep gloves and coveralls in my pickups just in case.  Also have a small fold up rain poncho in the glove compartment, just in case...

I work on my truck in the driveway.  My camaro stays in the garage.  I could move it but it cost to much to do that all the time.  I have all craftsman tools.  They stay in the garage. I haave nothing in my truck.  Not even a jack or a spare tire.  I have 4 ten inch woofers where the jack goes and a roll pan with a hiden hitch so no spare tire.

Right now I drive 20 miles to my parents' house to work on my truck and ATV. At the end of the month though I am moving into my house finally. Then I will have a 20x30 pole shed and a two stall garage to work in. It will be a great change for me. I have been in my apt. for about 4 years now, and it sucks when you want to work on something.

For tools in my truck: I carry a small Craftsman tool set, a torque wrench, a tow strap, and a few tie down straps. Besides that, I carry an air compressor, a few shingling guns, hoses, Craftsman cordless drill, and an Action Packer with tool belt and other small stuff for work.

Soon I will be starting my tool collection.
