Squeeking Shocks

I have had a slight squeek coming from one of my front shocks & has steadily gotten worse. Is this an indication it is about time for new shocks?

Pretty much, there is an easy way to tell. Take them out one by one and compress them. If they make noises, leak, or dont smoothly expand then they are bad. Recently i changed mine out for Monroe Reflexes from Napa. Although there are some benefits like smoother highway travel, they are really stiff off road. The truck does feel a bit more "planted" to the ground. But sometimes id like a little float here or there, if i wanted chronic back pains and neck join problems I would have bought a Dodge.

If I have to pull them off just to check them, they will get replaced! Truck is nearing 100,000 miles on the original shocks so it probably about time anyway. I just can't see going through the trouble of removing them just to put the old ones back on.

If you have 100K on a set of factory shocks in the state of Louisiana they're way overdue for being replaced.

Subject: Rattle/Squeak from Front of Vehicle (Replace Lower Portion of Upper Insulator Assembly)

Condition:

Some customers may comment on a rattle or squeak type noise coming from the front of the vehicle.

Cause:

The front shock absorber plastic pilot ring may be wearing out, causing the shock to misalign in the insulator.

Correction:

DO NOT replace the shock . Replace the lower portion, P/N 15834275 , of the upper insulator assembly using the procedure listed below. This new insulator has a taller plastic pilot ring that is attached to the metal sleeve to aid in the proper alignment of the insulators.

Remove the front shock absorber. Refer to the Shock Absorber Replacement procedure in the Front Suspension sub-section of the Service Manual.

Remove the lower portion of the upper insulator from the shock and discard.

Install the new lower portion of the upper insulator to the shock.

Important: Be sure to center the shock in the frame bracket and tighten the upper mounting nut when the vehicle is on the ground.

Install the front shock absorber. Refer to the Shock Absorber Replacement procedure in the Front Suspension sub-section of the Service Manual.

So I have a squeaking from the front end of my truck. Based on reading the above TSB...I don't understand fully what you are supposed to do. But, if I replace the front shocks will I also have accomplished the TSB fix above?

Hey everyone. im new to here and i've been having a squeeking problem with my truck. i have a 2003 Serra with the 5.3. and lots of upgrades to motor, trans and tires... So the problem i have is when i hit a bump it makes a loud squeek. i hear that is in the rear of my truck i know that cuz i replaced my fronts a couple of months ago. are my rears going bad now or what? and the other thing that just came is when i go in gear i hear i squeek with that... its not really loud or any thing... its more annoying than anything. can anyone help me?

At 100K you are long overdue for shock replacement. They get worse gradually so you really don't notice just how bad they really are until you install new ones! You'll probably think you bought a new truck.

At 100K you are long overdue for shock replacement. They get worse gradually so you really don't notice just how bad they really are until you install new ones! You'll probably think you bought a new truck.

thats the kicker im only at 68500.... far from 100k! i work construction and i tow alot... my work trailer and the one in the back of that pic but still
