First Looong Trip In 2008 Yd

First long road trip in a 2008 Yukon Denali. Put 3000 miles on over spring break driving from Chicago to Florida and I figured I would post my first impressions.

First off, the GMT900's really have a nice ride. Much smoother compared to my 01 Tahoe. VERY comfortable on long trips loaded up. Nav system worked very well, audio system worked well, dvd's worked well.

On to performance. WOW is about all I can say. I have put on about 4K around town but never on long highway trips. What impressed me the most is the acceleration from about 60-70mph to 100mph. Passing is a joy. Hit the gas at 70mph and blink your eyes and you are doing 100mph. Pretty impressive for a 6000lb vehicle. Of course it was so much fun I found myself hitting the "joy" pedal often. Wife even commented that 110mph (late night with nobody on the highway) at one point didn't even really feel like we were speeding. Handling was very firm with precise steering. Mileage averaged 15.1 with lots of 80-90mph speeds. With cruise at 80mph, I was getting almost 17mpg. Burned $700 in gas over 3000 miles.

All in all, I am very impressed with the 6.2L and the 6L80E. My wife's Enclave handles MUCH better but it doesn't have the same effect when you punch it. I'm a happy camper in my latest choice in vehicles. Thought I would share my impression.

I'm impressed if that's all your wife said when going 110 mph! Mine would have pulled my knuts out of her purse and ask if I ever wanted to see them again :smash: , it so slow down.

I have been impressed with my truck during our trips to cheeseland (Wisconsin). Much better ride than the '05 Equinox or my old '93 silvy.

Good to hear you enjoyed the trip.

How did you get it to 110? Mine shuts off around 95. And agree, it goes from 60-70 on up in a hurry. And also agree that 95+/- feels like 60.

Good to hear, Bish. I've only been on one real road trip since I got my SD. It did really well. I've been wanting to hit the road again, now that it's broken in more. Probably my only real complaint is that the seat didn't seem to support my back quite as much as I would've liked. Otherwise, it ran great, rode great, and drove great.

I have EFILive for a tuning tool and a tune from BlackBearPerformance.com. He bumped the speed limiter to 120 but I never go above 111 as that is the speed rating of my tires.

Regarding LF Motorsports comment, after 15 years of marriage, my wife is starting to get used to my driving :smash: She is fine with little to no traffic. She DOES NOT like weaving in traffic at speed and makes sure I know it in no uncertain terms if I'm a little too aggressive. It did take many accident-free years of driving with me to get more calm.

cool, going to take along trip in our new Tahoe first weekend in May. Proobably put 200 miles on it. I broke 120 miles this past weekend :banghead:

The waiting is the hardest part :M16: I like to put at least 500 or so on before flogging. Enjoy the new ride!

if your going up on I65 I will probably be the slowest one on it in a few wks waiting to break the engine in a bit more. I wish it was nicer out and I would drive it more. To damn rainy

I'm impressed if that's all your wife said when going 110 mph!

Was going from Dallas to Los Angeles a couple of years ago. Got a late start Friday evening. It was about 3 am, out in the West Texas desert. I was running along about 110. Daeling Wife had seat leaned back and was sleeping. (I was in the Cadillac)

She woke up, looked at the speedometer and asked... "Do you know how fast you are going?" I answered "Yep." She put her head back on the pillow... said "OK." and went back to sleep.

I am a very fortunate guy to have a real understanding wife. She very seldom hassles me.

Now THAT's what I like to hear. I think it boils down to a matter of trust. My wife knows I drive fast but I've also been to race driving schools and I don't really take unnecessary risks. I just like to drive fast under certain conditions.
