First Wax On My New Truck, Need Help....

Recommended Posts

Posted

I read all thirty pages in the appearance and care section and now I have a few questions.

1. Would Zaino be a good choice? I see a tacked thread about it so I'm assuming its good.

2. Do I need swirl removing polish Z5 or can I just use Z2. My truck is only a month old. I dont have any scratches. I do have the slightest bit of swirl marks when looking at a clean truck in direct sunlight.

3. Should I use a clay bar before the wax and polish?

4. How many coats of polish will I need for the wet look?

5. I saw a black Sierra the other day when it was sunny. It had gigantic swirl marks all over. It looked like it was covered in some type of horrible wax residue. What causes this and how do I avoid it?

6. Does this kit have everything I need?

Thanks

Clay bar and a good high quality wax of your choice is all you need to do. You can get exotic if it makes you feel better but it really isn't going to be any better. Polishing is for removing damage (and part of the paint). If you have a new truck, I'd recommend against any polishing.

After a good wax you should be good to go.

Yes. It is certainly a premium product line. Rules all MIGHT be a little much. :banghead:

BTW. Is Dannynoonan a Caddyshack reference?

use the clay first, it won t hurt and will remove anything that has bonded itself to the paint that you can t see( this will hurt your deep shiney look),

You really shouldn t have any swirl marks on a brand new truck but I would only use the Z2 (that must be a light polish)Z5 will be much stonger polish and you shouldn t need to be that aggressive.

Then wax, once will be fine.

I like just about anything I have ever used made by Meguairs. Never used Zaino but heard good things. Claying before you wax will remove alot of crap stuck to your paint that you may not realize is there. It will also reduce the chance of you adding more swirls into your paint because your are not dragging all of that road grit around when you wax. meguairsonline.com has lots of good information that you can use for most any brand of product you wish to use.

micro fiber applying pads and micro fiber cloths to remove wax. This will help avoid swirl marks. Also clean soft towels (or micro fiber) and a good washing mitt(they make micro fiber ones) . Swirl marks are made any time you touch the paint with anything but the right cloths will reduce the damage. As Zembones said, you may not have to use the Z2 step but that s a judgement call.

So far, my favorite wax is Klasse All-in-One. It goes on & off so easily and lasts for a long time. The other day I figured I would try out the new Meguiars NXT 2.0 wax. It looks good but does not come off as easily as the Klasse. It leaves smears here & there that I have to keep wiping. We'll see how long it lasts.

I have a black 08 sierra. Here is the reply I received when I asked Zaino what I need to keep it looking good. :banghead:

I just purchased a new 2008 GMC sierra crew cab pickup in onyx black.

I know black is a hard color to keep looking good and before I start

getting swirl marks in the paint what products would you recommend for

proper upkeep? It also has a leather interior.

Thank You for your interest in Zaino Show Car Polish Products....

For your above scenario..

Bare minimum to purchase is Z-AIO, Z-5, Z-6 and if you wash the car

yourself also get Z-7...

For the interior get Z-9 and z-10

Agreed..make sure you get an actual micro fiber cloth..not a knock off..even polyester threading on the edge can cause swirl marks...3M makes a polish just for hiding swirl marks on dark paint..(if you begin to see them appear). I use meguiars gold class paste wax..works great and buffs out easily. But again..invest in some good high quality cloths..they will make the job easier and pay for themselves in the long run. check out griotsgarage.com for some of these cloths.

It surprises me that they suggest Z-AIO. Seems the general concensus is to stay away from polish as there is no reason to use an abrasive on a brand new car.

I was thinking

Clay Bar (lubricated with Z-6) then

Z-5 then

Z-6 then

Z-2 then

Z-6 then

Z-2 done.

Would Z-AIO be a better choice than clay?

I don't know why they recommended the Z-AIO unless they want to push it as I believe it is a new product in their line. The bottle reads it can be used by itself or as a base coat for their other products. I did go with it but did not notice as much of a difference as I did after applying the Z-5 then Z-6. I park my truck in a garage with floresent lights and I could not see any marks at all. So far I have applied a coat of Z-AIO, 2 coats Z-5, & 2 coats Z-6 and am very happy with the results. I also use the leather cleaner and treatment and car wash.

Z-AIO is a different type of polish, I has properties of their other polishes it does not do the same a clay bar. If you have the clay bar use it the stuff is awesome. Be sure you lay down a old sheet or something cause the bar seems to jump out of you hands. If it hits the ground it is going to pick up stones and that sucks.
