JeepMan1011 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I have a 1996 Chevy Silvrado 1500 Pickup with a V8 305 5.0L engine. It will turn over but won't start. What's been done to it: replaced temp. sensor replaced Cam and Crank sensors replaced computer replaced Fuel Pressure regulator replaced fuel filter checked for and got spark has good fuel pressure of 55 psi got compression The engine will stat if i spray starter fluid in it but will die shortly after. After replacing the Fuel Pressure Regulator it would start on its own , but would die shortly after. Right after replacing the filter it wouldn't start at all. Checked Fuel Injctors with some kind of stethascope and heard a clicking sound as if they were opening and closing. I don't know what else to do, it just won't run. Please Help!!

Here's what I would do: Recheck the fuel pressure - if low or 0, check that I put the filter on correctly check that the fuel pump is working if normal range: check the fuel (old, sugar, other substance in it?) pull the injectors and make sure they're all working (or just replace them). check the electrical connections on injectors to make sure they're getting electrical commands. check the timing to make sure the fuel is flowing at the right time. If you have good fuel getting to the cylinders and electrical firing it, then it has to run - right?

Your injectors are in the manifold. So taking one out and checking is about a 4 hour job. If I remember right, this injection system with the poppet valves needs almost 60 psi to start, and about 52+ to keep running. I had a fuel pump the would not allow the pressure to stay high enough to start or even run after starting it with starting fluid. I had to replace the pump. Started right up after that.

Yeah that did it, but its running like crap it stalled on me twice, only when i'm not moving, but when i get above 10 Mph it works fine.
