Well...I'm looking to do a muffler swap on my Silverado. I'm looking at a Magnaflow #12259(18") or Magnaflow #12229(14") and am torn between the two. I've found two different videos on YouTube but they really sound pretty similar. I've got the 4.8l Vortec and am wanting your guys input on the decision. I think I like the video sound of the 12259 better but it's with a 5.3l and I'm not sure on what the real sound difference would be. I'm also wanting some advice on a tip. I'm looking at a Magnaflow 12" 3"I.D. 4"O.D. rolled tip. Will that weld up without having to change the rear pipes so it can still exit out the side? Thanks.

the only difference is the 14" will be a bit louder, but probably not a whole lot. with either muffler and the tip you're looking at, you've basicaly got Magnaflow's $500 system for well under $200.

whatever you do, it will puts a smile on your face every time you start it up or take off

So the 12" tip will weld right up? Do the redo the pipe? The current distance to the bend is only about 6 inches before the bend starts. This is my first time ever messing with exhaust.

Go with the 14". Magnaflow is too quiet in general so get the smaller one. The 12" tip would be alright. I regret going with 12" tips though cause they dont look too good side exit. They are 3" in 4" out Magnaflow 35116s ( same ones ur talking about )

its hard to compare the two videos you have becasue the motors are different, the 5.3 will be different than the 4.8. I would suggest the shorter muffler though just because the longer one will be a bit quieter. When it comes to tips its really your choice, its all opinion. I for one dont like the look of the rolled tips so i went with a different slash cut tip thats stainless. Let us know what you decide to go with. Either way you will be happy because a mag will put a smile on anyone's face.

I ended up going with the Magnaflow 12259. Overall, I like it. I didn't really know what to expect but it's a definite improvement over stock. I will try to get a sound clip sometime this week.

Good looks. It will only get louder with time too. My Mag setup has gotten much louder from when i first installed it. Post your sound clip so we can all get a listen: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...aust+sound+clip

I just purchased the 12259 myself and will be removing the factory muffler and replacing it with the Magnaflow. I intend to keep the rest of the factory pipes. I was able to find a 12259 for $79 and some change.
