dewfpo Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I have a automatic transfer case with my 8.1/ally, which calls for auto-trak II fluid, what kind of synthetic oil can I use in this? I am assuming you have a 2500 or 3500HD pickup. If that is the case, then you don't have an automatic transfer case requiring AutoTrak II fluid. Those were only available in 1/2 ton pickups, suburbans and tahoes. Do you have an AUTO button on the dash? What you have is an electrically operated (push button) transfer case. It requires the 75W90 as stated in the manual or some are putting in 3 quarts of 5W30 synthetic motors oil (not in the GM manual). DEWFPO
83trekker Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 Yes I have the auto button on the dash, on my 2500hd, all i could see in the manual was the automatic transfer case and not much of anything else in there. So i could use some mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in it?I also read some where about over filling a certain transfer case would this be the one to do that?
dewfpo Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I've never seen or heard of a 3/4 ton truck with the Automatic transfer case. But if you have 4 buttons and the top one is AUTO then you must use the AUTOTRAC fluid. Sorry. DEWFPO
83trekker Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 sorry i was typing fast I do not have the auto button on the dash, i have 2 wd,4hi, 4low button.

83trekker Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 So it only takes 2 qts and the 3rd one would be over filling it? Thanks

markw8 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 In 2000 there was a single 2500 model that was considered HD. The GVWR was 8600#s and it has the 4-80LE trans. I believe the later LD 25s were 7200 GVWR. Mark.
