2007 Nbs Silverado Battery Going Dead

Recommended Posts

This is the second time that it had to be jumped started. I have the WT package (plain Jane with manual windows & manual locks) with the V6 & the battery is a 615 CCA. I'm not sure of the AMP rating on the alternator. The battery is one those wonderful maintainence free jobs, so I can't check it with a hydrometer to see if it has a bad cell. I took it to the dealer and they told me to turn off my fuzz buster at night. I'm not buying that BS, because I had that thing with 99 S10, 2002 Silverado & 2005 Colorado and it never has caused a problem. I do have 2 hydrolic lifts in the back. One to pickup the drivers side of the topper to tip it open and the other one to pick up my power (electric) chair. I'm thinking that maybe the battery just isn't quite big enough with everything I have on it and it's just not getting fully charged back up when I drive it down the road. I'm thinking that maybe an 800 CCA battery might be big enough to do the trick. Let me know if anybody has any suggestions. I'm all ears.

Did they actually test the battery? If they did then there is a draw on your battery somewhere. If your battery gets down below half your alternator will not be able to bring it up to full capacity and can actually harm your alternator by putting to much draw on it.

I use this to keep my 2005 Corvettes battery in good condition.

It goes dead now after 6 days of sitting, no more worries now I have this.

I don't know how long you have had your truck and if your problem just started. We bought an 07 in Oct, it is in the shop for the 5th time. It had to be jump started three time, also. GM, nor the dealer can find any problem, but they keep replacing batteries. We have nothing plugged into the vehicle. GM doesn't even want to talk about the problem. So, ours has had three new batteries and will probably get another one day, since it had to be towed in again Saturday. I hope your problem is fixed faster than ours. THey get their money and are done.

Good luck.

Again...have you (both) investigated the TSB for battery rundown? 5 battery replacements is ridiculous...I'd have called that bluff after the second one went in.

I checked the TSB that you guys mentioned, but my VIN doesn't apply. That doesn't mean it couldn't be the problem. Maybe I should be calling GM Roadside assistance every time it won't start, instead of jump starting it myself. I started driving my Silverado in November and wasn't having any problems until I moved to town in January. I was driving 15 HWY miles and about 12 Town miles each way. Now I'm only driving about 6 to 8 town miles each way to work. Maybe I need to get a battery maintainer. I charged it last night with a trickle charger. It was pulling a little over 2 amps and it only took about 2 hours or so to fully charge it, but I did take it out on the HWY yesterday to charge up the battery. Guess I'll have to drill the dealer to see if they actually did a load test on the battery & what other tests they performed. You guys are really good and you had some good suggestions. Thanks.

I told them about the TSB, and about the wire at the 175 amp fuse at the firewall. They say they can't find anything. Supposed to have it hooked up to Satelite all night, not sure what that is going to do. But, at least I think they might finally be listening. I really don't think they are going to find any problem. I think when the battery totally goes dead, it turns off whatever the problem is. I expect to get a call tomorrow, to come get it with another new battery. Hope they find something, would be nice to have it fixed for good. If they do, I will post, so others will know the answer.

Keep your paper trail with the records and recipts, if it keeps up then perhaps it can be replaced under the Lemon Law.

Vehicles are so dang computerized now a days, its amazing we are not having even more issues then we are. Electrical systems are a nightmare for every automaker.

I have the same problem. 2wd wt V8 silverado.

Had it in 4 times. last time all of the mentioned fixes were addressed. no new firmware needed, body roll module fine. they did replace the fuel pump relay but they told me that was just a guess.

The pretty much told me they had no idea. So now im trying to get them to just buy the vehicle back. i have had the truck 9 months and it has 7k miles.

i just want out and gm's customer service is unbelievable bad. completely unwilling to help.

I know this isn't really a fix, but I pulled the fuse for the daytime running lights and it seams to have helped the situation. I've had to jump start it a couple of times only because I had the radio on while I was outside working on a project most of the day and the other time I accidently left the topper light on. I guess if I have to choose between the stupid headlights being on 24/7 or it starting I'll choose to have it start. This is the first Chevy I've had that has OnStar. I wonder how much that thing draws. My pickup only has the 615 cc amps which may not be enough for all the electronic gismos it has. You can get a 730 cc amp battery which may help as well.

My 2007 NBS Sierra WT Reg Cab with manual windows and power locks and OnStar (not active when this happened) died after a 2-week sitting period while I was out on vacation. It was odd that just 2 weeks sitting there would cause a battery to die like that, but it did.

It worked fine after a jump start, but it caused a buzzing in my stereo system that is annoying as shit.

The battery on my Cadillac will go dead if it sits for for about 10 days.

Ya don't think your add on stuff could be incorrectly hooked up or left with

power on somehow do ya?

Ever tried to disconnect that stuff and see if the battery still goes dead?

    • I will be one of those "blinded". One, I like new shiny things. Two, I've never kept any of them beyond the 3/36. Three, I don't finance anything. Four, yep, it's a waste of money....so,what? I'm doing my part of keeping automotive industry going and keeping my neighbors, most of whom are in it, employed. 😉      By the way this is the "signature... ¬
    • Although there is a "recommended" weight by those who sell trailers, my experience has been that they are way too aggressive in their information, for me at least. My '22 with 6.6 Gas, has a payload of about 3400 lbs and depending on your specs (I don't have 4WD so it has a bit higher Payload than others) yours will likely be different. Payload is one of the most important numbers for towing. Although you "could" tow the max trailer weight for your truck, I, personally, would not go close to that number. Having said that, a lot depends on how/where you will be towing. I live in the LMD of BC and often tow to Denver, Co, along interstates (flat and mountains) and I find I need to keep it in 5th (6spd) for the trip and travel at around 65mph. This is for a trailer dry weight of just under 3500lbs. If you are only doing local, short trips, it would not be that big an issue if you had a heavier unit. You will be surprised how much stuff you load the trailer with, so I would only recognize the trailers "full" GVWR weight rating, then decide on the appropriate trailer from that number. If you are worrying about how much stuff you should be putting in a trailer, you might have too large a rig from the get-go. Once again, depending on what terrain/distance in which you will be pulling. Marv
    • davester, Thanks for the response, how ever, I think I am now a bit more confused than I was before I posted - - After I posted, I actually found a YT video of a guy who replaced his Module (above tire) and he only disconnected the ground cable of the battery, but you describe rubbing the two cables together after disconnecting. I presume that is to do as you describe and eliminate any residual energy? - When I picked up the Module (between my posting and reading your response) from the dealer, I specifically asked about any re-programming and he stated it was not necessary as it was simply plug and play. Don't know how knowledgeable he is, though. - The video I watched also showed the Module plug to be difficult to "unlock" and remove, but there was no mention of silicone, although the video did show a bunch of dust/dirt in and around the plug (old truck) during removal. Are you talking about silicone that was applied by the factory, or silicone that you applied prior to plugging in? Thanks again, Marv
