Help Please!

Hello:

Need some help on this one...I have an '06 GMC Sierra Vin # 2GTEK19B661323797 that originally came with 3.42 gears front and back. I just switched the ratio to 4.10 to gain additional pulling power for my camper. My trusted mechanic can not enter the computer to reprogram and said that I need GM to do the reprogram...GM Service adviser said that this can't be done. I am sure that he does not know what he is talking about so I thought that I would ask the experts. Can GM do this, do I have to find an after market programmer, or put tape over the ABS/Brake/Service Brake System lights and live with it?

If this can be done by the dealer, please describe how.

Did you get the PCM reprogrammed?

I went to another dealership that was willing to look into it....they called GM and found that they need to download an update and then they can do it. I have an appointment on Monday for this.

Needless to say, the first dealership is off my list for any other work (they are dumb bells).

It can be done. The dealer has to call Technical Assistance and get a VCI number to program. Only thing to remember is that TAC will not support any 1999 vehicle or older.

Thanks Chevy Tech! I assumed as much. When I made the first call to Luther Chevrolet I got a "new" service adviser that I could tell did not know anything beyond how to answer the phone. He asked the Service Manager about it and came back and said that I can't to anything with the change. I asked to speak with him and basically told him that a change in programming is possible. With hesitation he would "look into it". He called me back and said that 4.10's were not available in my truck at that I was SOL. I then called Kolar GMC and spoke with the Service Manager...he said that he would look into it and call me back. He called GM and found out how to do it. It was such a pleasure in dealing with Kolar as they were willing to look into the issue and figure it out. Strike 3 on Luther Chevrolet....your out with me!
