Half Ton Diesel Specs Released

I can see it now, some idiot snapping something by pushing the drivetrain too hard....

I would consider one if GM put the hybrid tech in it to boost the gas (diesel) mileage up to the point of a sedan of today (or even kick the Prius' ass).

yeah but then not only will the diesel engine boost the price the hybrid will end up making a half ton pickup cost more than my Lexus. It would be a great combination but the added cost and difference in fuel mileage would have to be dramatic.

A short bed regular cab Sierra/Silverado with that much tire melting power...That would be one bad ass sleeper...

I think with an exhaust, intake, and proper tune. Those 4.5L D-max's could see MPG in the high 20's......maybe touch 30? :withstupid:

stock I would think they would be around 23-24 MPG. if America would wake up and get serious about bio-diesel, perhaps the cost of diesel would compete with regular gas costs?

who knows where we'll be by 2010...but i like the sounds of 500 ft lbs of torque

...and then blame GM

Man oh man I can't wait till they come out. I really wanted a new Camaro but two car payments is not really smart especially since I want to own a home within the next two years. (Almost 22 yrs. old I need to move out of my parents' house)

So this would really be a good all around vehicle. Tuning/Performance, Off Roader, Towing, Hauling Kids(Crew Cab), as well as qualifying as a "Country Club"/"Valet Parking" vehicle(LTZ or SLT)...

Why not make it a diesel/electric hybrid the same way that locomotive engines are? The diesel engine runs an alternator, which powers electric motors connected directly to the wheels. This would totally eliminate the transmission, and transfer case on 4WD trucks. Plus, you'd have ridiculous amounts of low end torque.

Let's see Diesel is about a $1 more than gas, this option will be a $5,000-7,000 option and with the new 2010 emissions crap will yield about 15-18MPG. Looks like this thing has FAIL written all over it. Reduce the hp/tq make it an electric hybrid and you might have something but not in it's current form.

I don't know about that... It already has me thinking and I believe a lot of people will be interested.

Plus, I don't expect diesel to stay this much more expensive than gas for much longer.
