These Nbs Trucks Are Really Weak(power Wise)

Before someone calls me a troll...I am 42 years old and have owned nothing but Chevy trucks all my life, same for my dad and all the rest of the male members of my family.

On a positive note, I love the way the new trucks ride/drive and the quietness of the interior...but my old '95 TBI 350 had lots more torque down low and pulled my bass boat waaayy better with better fuel economy.

Is GM the only manufacture that detunes thier engines? Does Ford,Dodge,Toyota have some sort of torque management on thier trucks?(I don't know)

We have men here that are getting rid of these trucks because they just wont pull thier 3000-3500 lbs equipment trailers without guzzling gas and trying not to get run over.

Why doesn't GM fix the weak links in the 4L60E so they dont have to make the engines such a turd.

Sorry if I affended anyone,I am loyal to Chevys and won't buy anything else. I'm just a little frustrated and needed to rant.

Anyone feel the same?

I Haven't really towed anything that heavy, just a a couple of snowmobiles and a utility trailer, but I had a '95 GMC, loved the truck, but there is no comparison between the two trucks when it come to towing. Ya the mileage sucks but after all it's a TRUCK and I'm towing so I don't expect the world. My .02 worth.:)

2009 has the 6-speed tranny and 6.2 engine option.

My 05 GMC Sierra with 5.3 tows my 5500 pound camper really well. I have no trouble staying up with traffic. And the gas mileage is not that bad for a truck. I am well pleased with my truck.

Don't know what your problem would be?

My boat and trailer together weigh between 4000-4500lbs depending on fuel, gear etc. My 2007 towed for the second time this weekend taking the boat down to the lake for the summer. In 75 miles of piedmont VA driving (generally moderately hilly), my NBS tows quite a bit better than my '02 5.3 did. There is a noticible amount of extra power from the 5.3, but the biggest difference is in the tranny. When in tow/haul mode, my '02 would hold gears too long and was rather herky/jerky. The NBS in tow/haul mode is almost as smooth as in regular operation and always seems to be in the correct gear (no gear hunting). While towing down the interstate at 75 mph, the NBS feels like I am driving a Town Car.

Oh yeah, I averaged between 13 and 13.5 mpg on my trip as well.

Are you comparing apples to apples?

You noted the engine.

What about axle gear ratio and tire size? How about truck configuration, as in reg. cab, ext. cab, crew cab or anything else that affects the truck's own weight?

My 2004 ext. cab 4x4 with the 5.3L, 4L60E, 4.10:1 gear ratio, & 265/70R17 tires has no problems towing my car on an open trailer (~5500 lb). It gets about 11 mpg while towing at 70 mph.
