Theft Prevention

In response to the news reports about tailgate & tailight theft, I

purchased and installed the GM tailgate lock kit yesterday.

The installation was as easy as advertised, took 15 mins and the

codeable lock worked with my ignition key and now I feel a little

bit better.

Excellent upgrade for under $40.

P.S. A relative who works at an auto body shop says that tailgate

theft is popular now & Dodge is the most stolen one. They are hard to

get at junk yards because so many are being stolen. The total cost

to replace with a new one is close to $1000. (OUCH)

For those that don't want to add a lock or use a lock, jimmijammer.com sells tailgate and taillight kits to make it more difficult to steel these items. I'm going to order them plus the jimmijammers for the doors.

In my 99 silverado manual, it shows this tailgate lock. When I got the truck new, I noticed the part, not on the tailgate. So, I received it free, from the dealer.

I'm worried about thieves removing the cab mount bolts and stealing my whole cab . . . Can't imagine going out to your truck and finding your cab is gone.

I'm going to look into producing cab locks. :D
