08-09 Gmc For Plowing

just curious if anyone had an 08 or 09 and was plowing snow with it, did you have to cut the lower part of the spoiler off and have you had any proplems with it

I have the 08 Chevy and had a Fisher HD 8' plow installed on it right after I bought it from my local Chevy dealer. They did have to cut the lower part on either side of where the tow hooks were. I had no problem with it but I did notice that the center part (where the license plate is) did not have much strength now and I was able to move it forward & backward. I bought some metal bar and built some support for it so it does not flop around anymore.

I believe if you buy a Hiniker plow, there is no cutting required.

Guys .......It depends on what plow brand you have and which truck your

putting it on !!!!!!!!

 

I bought a new Western Ultra-mount and had it installed on my new 01 Chevy

2500. I removed the air dam so no cutting required.

 

I then bought a new 04 Chevy 2500. The mount swapped fine. I removed the

lower air dam so I wouldn't have to cut it either. I did have to buy 1 new truck

side wiring harness because GM changed the truck side lighting arrangement and

the dealer was unwilling to "cobble" my old harness to work on the 04.

 

Then I bought a new 07 GMT-900 2500 Chevy. What a expensive nightmare

swapping the plow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instead of driving to the Blizzard guru Jerres Service in Erie Pa. because he

warned me this swap would be no cake walk I went back to my local

Western dealer !!!!!!!!!

 

The push bar/mount aka mounting carton fit NO problem BUT the nose on

the GMT-900s sticks out more and requires modification/extention of old

push bar or SEVERE butchering of the lower plastic pieces of the junk

bumper assembly so the plow "hook" assembly will latch and not hit

bumper. thus it will NOT rotate to lock-in position...........................

 

BOB.....You have/had this issue huh?????????

 

Butcher bumper on new $35k truck or buy the new model push bar?

Solution............NEW $500 push bar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Again GM changed the lighting and it is run thru the BCM so the 04s

plow wiring will not work in the 07 and now it needs BOTH truck side

harnesses at $180 and $250 bucks each !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Well GEE.............My old style plow lights wont work with the new style wiring

harnesses and Westerns new 3 to 4 control module.............

Dealer unwilling to "cobble" old plow lights and plow module..............

Solution: New Sabre plow lights $250 and new plow Module $200

 

Ended up costing almost $1800 to swap the plow from my 04 to 07.........

BUT a new Blizzard was $5500 and a Western V was $4500 and my 01

plow has several good years left in it so it was worth the trouble of

swapping it again.....................

 

I wish the trucks lasted as long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for your help guys, i will be putting an 8.5 ft arctic plow on my new GM. i have a blizzard plow on my dodge and it's ok but it just doesn't plow like the arctic does and my other gm has a fisher plow but i don't like that the pump runs off the power steering pump. hopefully i should have my truck in the next couple of weeks, just hoping that the 6.0 doesn't kill me in fuel

Towman.................I have the 6.0 auto 3:73 rear.

Driving it EASY around town unloaded with the AC on I can squeeze

16 mpg. out of it !

My 04 6.0 with 4:10s the best I could get was 12 mpg.

 

The 07 tows my 29 ft. camper or boat quite well as I worried about the

3:73 vs. the 4:10s and towing ability.

Pushes snow just great also!

 

You don't like your Blizzard? Man.....if I was in the market for a new

plow a Blizzard from Jerres Service in Erie would be my choice!

He specially modifies them for better operation and durability and they

are called "Erie Specials"

Several Canadians over on the "lets talk snow" forum came down to

Erie and purchased a few Erie special Blizzards and rave about them !

Not to mention the cost difference and savings with the strong Canadian

dollar and the cheaper American side prices along with not paying

that big PST and GST tax you guys got !
