1965 Impala Ss

Well here it is, my 65 Impala SS. I purchased it back in July of 84 and it is just about done. The engine has been balanced and blue printed, it is the original 396. I added a roller cam and roller rockers, the rest is all stock bottom end. New harmonic balancer, double roller timing chain, and the addition of a Mass-Flo fuel injection, March pulley, Hot Rod Air(took out the factory AC since it was completely non functional and would have cost some serious money to replace over the Hot Rod Air system). Also installed a TREMEC TKO 600 5 sp, so now cruising down the road at 70mph it is running at 1500rpm. I'm hoping that will help the fuel economy some. :withstupid: It was broke in on the chassis dyno. It is putting out 318rwhp at 5300rpm and 470lbft of torq at 4200rpm. Not a major muscle but not bad for not to much work to the stock motor and running small oval port factory heads. What is wild is running on the country roads, can't really use 5th below 55mph since it is running at 1200rpms. That .64 OD gear really makes a difference. I guess if I wanted to wake it up I could go from the factory 3:31 rear to a 3:73 or 4:10's.impalacomplete003wq6.jpgimpalacomplete002ua0.jpgacdrain008pd2.jpgacdrain012eb8.jpg

Nick. I have said it before. This is one of my favorite body styles. I loved the 65 and 66 Impalas. Nice clean and simple look but stick on the SS badges and a 396 and look out.

Nice car. I get my Wildcat finished I would like to hook um up side by side. :withstupid:

Sweet! Sure would love to cruise some mains in that bad mother. Not bad for a 28 year restoration project. :withstupid:

:withstupid: A job well done. I'm impressed with the Chevy orange paint on the engine block. That takes me back to the good old days.

Sweet ride Nick. I like the color, I like the wheels, I like the hood but I LOVE THE ENGINE! Great looking car. Can't top American Muscle! Drive that thing with a smile on your face every time you pass rice burners :withstupid::D:withstupid:

+1 I still remember my mom had a 66 Impala SS with the 283. My stepdad wrecked it in 1978. I loved that car!!! It was fixable too (just needed a front clip and hood) but he gave it to his son cuz he was broke. Then he bought my mom a 78 Monte Carlo which I ended up owning when I was about 19.

Nice car, but I'd lose the hood and "rice" wheels and make it look stock....IMO.

Looks like he has to use that hood, because the air filter sits too high for a stock.

Looks great. I love the Chevy's from the mid-sixties. They had a lot of character. I wish today's cars had as much character.
