Equinox Fan Running When Engine Off

My mom just got a new 08 equinox, today when she came home, parked it in garage and turned it off, the fan was still running Ive heard about this on older vehicles or diesel's but never a standard newer gas engine. Does this sound like a problem or a safety feature to cool engine down? it shut off after about 5-7 min.....

Ive owned a bunch of new vehicles and never heard this happen, / same w/ my dad.

edit: Its only 80 degrees outside. and she said on her way home she didnt hit any lights at all so it was free sailing , the engine should have gotten plenty of air. to cool

My Girlfriend had an 04' Malibu that did the same thing. According to the dealer where she bought it the fan is designed to turn off at one temperature and off at another, regardless if the engine is running or not. If you open the hood and look, somewhere along the upper radiator support should be a little warning label about how the fan can turn on whenever it wants to. Nothing is wrong with your moms Equinox. No worries, good luck with the new purchase.

haha, BRILLIANT. Im pretty sure all GM cars and trucks with electric fans will do that though. Ive got the same warning you said on my fan shroud

i figured it was normal , but liek i said, ive had a bunch of new vehicles and never heard it and same w/ my dad... thanx for the replys, im gonna have to look for that little sticker

edit: now that i think of it, i dont think any of my trucks ever had electric fans on em. now it all makes sense

IIRC the 06 has electric fans. I think they switched over in 04.

She's liking it so far...

she got rid of her 06 impala SS for it She wanted something a little bit better in gas and mainly better in the winter. So an awd equinox was the best choice. I sure do miss that SS impala tho, definately one of the fastest cars ive ever driven!
