Scangauge Problem ?

I've had the scangauge on my pickup since May 10 and just ran into a problem when lending the gauge to my brother to use on his vehicle. All of the gauges on my instrument panel stop reading when I pull out the cable from the scangauge that plugs into the data link. When I plug it back in, everything starts working again. This really sucks b/c I bought this gauge with the idea of lending to any of the family members that are going on long trips in their vehicle. Anybody else ran into this problem?

I have NO IDEA how these things work. Never owned a scan gauge.

I DO Know that handheld tuners lock to a particular vehicle, so you can't take one tuner and tune 50 vehicles. You can only tune one at a time --- must return one vehicle to stock tune prior to tuning another

Is it possible there is functionality in the scan gauge to do the same? Lock to one vehicle. It would make sense. They certainly want to sell as many as possible.

Just a guess....

I understand, and agree with what you said, but if I'm understanding correctly, it isn't the gauges on the scangauge that are no longer functional, but the gauges that are built into the truck. If it was the scangauge, That would be perfectly understandable, but the factory gauges not working IMO seems like a problem with the gauge.

And if it isn't it certainly opens them up to many a lawsuit.

are you unplugging the scanguage cable from the OBDII connector under the dash? I've removed mine to pull codes from other vehicles but I've always unplugged the cable from the OBDII port also

the scanguage doesn't marry itself to a vehicle like a tuner does.

Yes, I remove the cable from the OBDII port and that's when the instrument panel on the pickup goes dead, all gauges including odometer. As soon as I plug back in the cable the Instrument panel comes back to life, have not heard back from techs at Scangauge yet, must be puzzling their mind. Have done many things like disconnecting battery for 30 minutes, checking fuses, relays but no luck so far. I guess the cable will not be parting with my vehicle from now on.

What about unplugging it with vehicle off, then starting vehicle?

Sounds odd though, maybe the cable has a short or one of the pins in your plug is bent or something

thats weird i also pull mine out to read friends codes then if i dont feel like fishing the wire through i run without it and all gauges work fine. i kinda wish mine did that, if the speedos not working think of the resale if i could keep my truck at 30,000 klms for another 5 year. and the scan gauge is not just for one car only, they sell you as many cables as you want so the can take it car to car.

I think you have a some pins touching in your OBDII connection. Try to plug in just the cable from the scangauge WITHOUT the scangauge plugged into the other end. If your cluster works in this configuration you need to unplug it and start looking at each pin in the connector.

This sounds like a good idea, will look into this. Have already tried disconnecting gauge from cable and does the same thing, so I thing you are on to the probem with the pin connectors.
