J-man67 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I usually dont pay attn to my mileage but I was surprised when I saw what I was getting via DIC. I filled up in Dover which is 45 miles south of my house, got on the highway and this is what I got. My girlfriend (left hand HAHA) took the picture with my cell while i was getting off at an exit. Wasn't expecting to see better then the sticker on the truck said. I was doing a stready 66 mph with a/c on and it was flat but I am still happy to see these numbers.
99silverado1500 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Yeah thats downhill averages!!!! My dads duramax got 87MPG rolling downhill for 25 miles straight, but as soon as the road had a up grade it dropped back down to 18-19 like usual.
J-man67 Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 Yeah I have seen 99mpg going downhill, but that wasn't downhill. It was highway driving and its all flat. I only got 18-20 with my ext cab Colorado on that same drive so thats why I was surprised and happy.
99silverado1500 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Yeah, do you have a 4.8 or a 5.3? At my local dealer they have a leftover 2007 Silverado Crew Cab LS 4x4 for 21,700 on special and I wanted to buy it but it has a 4.8 and 3.42s and I dont know how well its going to do on fuel and how well it might haul something (3000-5000 lbs), as my 5.3 has its tongue hanging out on some hills loaded but its to be expected with a gas engine.

If I get on the interstate and set my cruise at 65mph with air on, I can consecutively get 20.5 - 21.0 mpg over a 100 mile cruise to my inlaws place. All interstate of course, and no I am not drafting to get this mpg. For reference, I have the 5.3 liter. So it is possible with certain characteristics: flat road, no wind, and some luck For reference, if I increase my cruise speed to 70mph with air on, my mpg drops to 18.3mpg on the same route. At 75mpg I will drop down into the high 17's.

I have the 5.3 with 3.73 gears. I don't tow anything too heavy so I am happy with how it performs. A guy on another site has the 4.8 with 3.42's in a 07 Silverado. He just put on Fabtech's 8 inch lift and 37's. He said it handled them fine. He is switching to 4.88's but just throwing that out there. I actually think the 5.3 gets better mileage then the 4.8, at least thats the idea I get from viewing this site.

I wasnt drafting either haha, i was the slowest vehicle on the road so people were passing me and leaving me behind...oh well. I usually don't drive like that but was curious what it would get with easy driving and I liked it.
