Blown Speakers

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 01 GMC Sierra X-Cab. The two front speakers are making a terrible rattling sound. (sounds blown)

How do I change out the front speakers?

Remove the 3 screws holding in the door panel. There is one on the bottom of the door, one by the handle and one by the opening handle then it should be able to be slid up, removed, and the top clip on the speaker needs to be pushed down and pull the top towards you and gently pull up and unclip the wires. You will need speaker adapters and 5.25 inch speakers

Crutchfield sells adapters that work great in GMT800 trucks. Those $1.98 factory speakers are terrible whe they are new. You'll be much happier with some quality replacements. Good luck.

There are only 2 screws. The one in the bottom only holds the door panel together, and doesn't need to be removed.

(don't know why the pictures, aren't working, if you need help, PM me.)

Actually, the closest replacement is a 6-3/4" speaker, but a 6-1/2" will work. I wouldn't recommend 5-1/4" speakers at all when you could put bigger ones just as easily. Also, throw those flimsy plastic brackets in the garbage, they are crap.

so Just to be clear... I can replace the front two speakers with 6 3/4" speakers?

Yes 6 3/4. And yes the backs are 4x6 plates. I just desoldered the adapters off the old speakers and soldered them to the new ones, and I tore the plastic bracket off the stock ones and use them to install the new speakers.
