I bought a Humminbird 525 at cabelas last week, and it worked great the first day. Had perfect depth readings, temp worked great etc. I took it back to the lake, and it had horrible readings, lost readings, wouldnt update, showed 150 degrees, and the water might have been 70, and I was in the shade all day. Im pretty pissed off, and ive been looking at reviews and it seems like humminbird has some shitty fish finders. They used to be a good fish finder, and I guess they are going downhill. Are the higher models any better? I guess im looking for a single beam with speed and temp, I really dont need a dual beam, thats more for deep saltwater stuff. Im looking to spend under 200 if possible, I got mine onsale for like 119.99 which I thought was a goodprice until this thing stopped working. ANyone have any reccomandations for a good finder?

I have personally always used Hummingbird or Eagle finders. Sucks that yours went so wild on you. I have never had a problem out of them. I, too, when shopping for them don't like to spend my savings on them though

What kind of finder are you running right now?

I just need something for lake fishing, the deepest it gets is about 150 feet I believe.

Its just a aluminum fishing boat, so really even the speed doesnt matter, I have a Magellan GPS mounted in the boat anyways. The temp is nice, but not really needed either, I just want something that works to avoid suckin muck into my outboard.

I think the cheaper models are you get what you pay for. I have a cheap Eagle on my boat and its a POS. I really really really what one of these. But gotta get the $689 dollar trolling motor paid for first.

Right now I have a dual hummingbird setup in my boat...one on the console and one for the trolling motor. No problems, maybe I just got lucky
