Extra Wire Under The Hood 08' Silverado

As I was looking under the hood of my brand new silverado I found a "spare wire" that caught my eye. On the right side as I'm looking at the engine, not for from the extra battery tray (about 18 inches behind it) there is a about 15 inches of maybe #16 wire wrapped up and taped in place. The end of the wire has a ring terminal on it, with maybe 1/4" hole. the other end of the wire goes into a large run of wires. I think the wire is purple or pink with a black stripe.

Any idea what that would be for?? Also, what is the extra battery tray for?

thanks!

If it is what I am thinking it is, that ties to a post on the under-hood fuse panel and it either powers the brake controler when you add one, or it powers the 12v terminal on your 7-pin trailer connector. They are both down there, I just do not remember which is which. You will probably find another one tied to a cluster of wires below the Master Cylinder.

Oh, and Captain Obvious is going to have to say that the extra battery tray is for an extra battery...

There will be 2 "spare" wires, one on each side of the fuse block, just aft of the spare battery tray. They are indeed for connecting the brake controller both for power and braking. If you do not need a brake controller, then just leave them tied up till the day you need them. There is an excellent thread somewhere on the forum about the wires and where they connect.

Cheers.

The one that is taped to the harness under the Master Cylinder is the 12V Feed to the 7-Pin for charging your RV battery while towing. That goes to the Black Stud on the fuse box, you just need to install a 40A puse and you are set.

There is also one taped to the harness between the fuse box and the fender, this is the Power feed to the brake controller and goes to the other stud, the fuse is already there.

Also on the 1500 NBS is the battery always by the Pasenger side firewall, my 05 it was driver side front infront of the fuse box. It is nice that they left the other battery plate in there though.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've got the factory brake controller in my truck. I other day I pulled a trailer and had lights, but no brakes.

The duramax has two batteries.

My gasser has the dual battery option. I wanted it because I also got a snow plow for the truck.
