Dead Battery - Again!

2008 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab 4x4 Long Bed.

Dead battery again. Truck sat for 10 days. This is the 3rd time. After 2nd time, took it to Mr. Goodwrench. Supposedly they fixed it. Or maybe they did nothing.

I think it has to do with the wiring of the A.R.E. truck cap. The cap dealer took apart the driver side rear light and wired the cap brake light. He did a whole bunch of splicing.

So I guess, it's back to Mr. Goodwrench. The cap dealer is no help.

Also, I noticed the orange light on in/next to speedometer. The one that looks like an engine. No words. Anyone know what that light means. (Yes, I can go to manual and read 200 pages of warnings and cautions and maybe find out what it means).

The light did go out after about 20 minutes of driving and after I stopped and turned off ignition. At next start, light out. Truck runs fine.

Just a note: Factory put in wrong battery. Dealer put in optional battery. There is the standard battery and then the optional high capacity battery. I ordered truck with optional battery. I don't think this has anything to do with anything. :sigh:

Check engine light. IMO the most vague and worthless warning auto manufacturers every put on the dash panel.

Obviously not good. I doubt the camper brake light wiring could cause it. I'd think the dealer should test to see if there is an unusual amount of current drain when the vehicle is not running with the key off. Some power is required to keep computer and preset memories but it is very minimal.

It is possible that the battery is just bad.

yep as woodcutter pointed out, that orange check engine light is almost useless, what it means is the truck has thrown a code (could be almost anything) and that code is stored in memory...dealership should be able to pull that code.
