20s Or 22s?

Well, the time has arrived for new wheels. I am going with a black wheel with a chrome lip. I was really wanting 20s because I do live on a gravel road and don't want a terrible ride all the time but I'm afraid the 20s will look small and out of the place on my still stock height NNBS ECSB with OEM 17s. I was thinking quite a few NNBS owners here have 20s and was wondering how their ride was and such. Also, what size tire would I need to run to stay close to stock diameter? Thanks.

I also am a bigger fan of 17's or 18's but if you must go big i would say no larger than 20.

Sorta depends. Do you have any pics of your truck? What are you plans for it? Going to lower/lift it any time soon? Do you ever use it as a truck? Off-road?

You certainly didn't need 20's to accomplish that.

The subject asks 20's or 22's. But, I don't see anything about 22's in your post. If you're worried about the ride quality on your gravel roads w/ 20's, I would not recommend even considering 22's. But, that's just me...

 

My Sierra Denali came with 18's. I believe they were 265/65SR18's. When I bought my 20's, I bought 275/55VR20's. The ride did "firm up" some. But, I'm ok with that. To me, the 18's felt a little too 'soft' at times (especially in corners). With the 20's, the ride is a little more firm, but my truck feels more sure-footed, when I push it a little. One thing I have noticed is that air pressure is a big deal (or at least bigger of a deal) with the 20's. The more over-inflated they are, the more you feel every single little thing in the road. I can imagine that 22's would be MUCH worse about that than the 20's, since there is even less sidewall to absorb the imperfections in the road surface.

20's.. I drive mainly on gravel roads.. but I drive 30 kph though. As for rough ride, not sure, the bigger tires do cushion more.

Well I just sold an SS Silverado that came with 20s and it rode beautifully. I have an Escalade EXT that came with 22s and the ride is definitely firmer, not harsh but firmer. I would not hesitate putting 20s on my truck. I like the look of bigger wheels. When I bought the SS I traded in a 2002 Silverado with 17s and I believe the ride was pretty much identical over the smaller imperfections in the road.

The stock 20s have a 275/55r20.

 

That is what mine came with, they fit perfect for the stock height and ride just fine.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I even asked, I know I am going 20s. I want to have plenty of meat but it's a 2wd and if I'll more than likely lower it with 2" rear shackles at the MOST I will put on a 2/3 kit. Yes, I use this truck as a truck and yes I do occasionally take it down a dirt road or two. Thanks for the opinions and comments. As for pics, I dont have any right now but I will be washing/waxing my truck this week sometime and I will try to get pics up then.
