Power Steering Noises 2006 Gmc 5.3

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with the L33 5.3 and it just had a steering intermediate shaft replaced and this week its making slight pump noises when I turn left and right. Nothing when I am going straight but its not squealing. Almost the noise when you steer all the way to one side and the pump makes that 'can't go any further and I am about to break' noise. Truck has 18,500 miles on it. Is this a problem I am going to have to deal with a lot or just something freak. I am beginning to learn a lot of repetitive issues with this truck like belts, drive shaft clunk, and steering intermediate shafts... Thanks for any help and I will have the truck at the dealer when I get a chance but wanted to know what it might be in the meantime. I am used to taking care of cars myself so taking it to the dealer is weird, but its free!

I have a 2006 Silverado with the same L33, and am having the same thing. i can just barely hear it, and it seems like its not everytime i turn. Called the dealer they said it has to be somthing they can hear in order to fix it. i have 30xxx miles and my warenty is coming close to the end..... I am hoping i can get it fixed under warrenty. I have had the sterring shaft replaced but have not had issues with belts or drive shafts. this noise is just enough to piss me off and a little embarresed when turing in and out of parking spots.

have you found anything on a repair? and how many miles on yours. My 3 years is up in a little over a month and i am really wanting this fixed.

If I remember correctly it may have to do something with the fluid in the pump, but at the same time it might just be wearing out. I have an 06 as well, I had the I-Shaft replaced and the altenator bracket as well. I have not heard anything while turning though....

I checked the fluid level and it was slightly low. I filled it and its still whining. It almost sounds like wind is coming in so I had it in Park and gave it a little gas to around 1500 RPM while turning the wheel and got louder to the point you can hear it. I had to have the doors shut and the windows up but you can hear it. Heard it while going down the road giving it a little gas and making a slight turn...I also have the 20" wheels and I know they are pretty wide and therefore could ware the pump out some, but again, my level was low so maybe a leak in a hose and thats making the noise?? I am dropping it off tonight and they will look at it tomorrow and I will let you know what happens. Stay tuned!
