Knock Sensor On A 4.3l 2002

Brand new to the forum, but all the posts I've seen have already been very helpful. Hopefully this is a simple thing that won't cost me an arm and a leg to take care of.

I've got a 2002 Silverado 4.3L v6 with about 105K miles on it. This past friday my SES light came on. I got the code read: P0327 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor). The light came on while I was on the incline of an overpass between highways (moderate - high load). I've never heard or felt any kind of knocking in the engine, and it feels like it's driving just like it did prior to the code. I cleared the code out of the PCM and I haven't seen it come back yet. Is there any way I can test the sensor/wiring to see if it's working without tearing the engine apart? I already know the sensor is on/near the transmission mounting plate on the back of the engine, and if I want to replace it I have to pull the distributor.

Also, is there any damage I'm doing to the engine while I'm driving it if the sensor is in fact out? I'd think that if the sensor were out the code would come back wouldn't it?

Thanks in advance for all the help.
