Bent rods

Hey guys, I took my car in for service, and they checked it, told me one of the rods were bent in cyl 1, They said they found anti freeze in it, I dont understand why the rod would bent from anti freeze and why the anti freeze would be there. Is there any problems or things i should look out for in the future that this program after it is fixed could cause

 

My car has 51,000 miles on it, It has the vortec 350

I don't think this is a common problem.  However if a large quantity of liquid were to get into the combustion chamber, then a "hydro-lock" condition could occur.  Basically the liquid in the chamber would increase compression in that cyl. to the point where it would not be able to compress it and that could cause a rod to bend.

The fluid in the cylinder problem is usually caused by either crack in head or bad head gasket.

Either way you're looking at tearing the engine down.

Yep on all accounts above - water and antifreeze do not like to compress - at least under the conditions in a cylinder!  Of the 2 ways antifreeze gets into the cylinder, a bad gasket is the least expensive to fix, but if you already bent a rod, you got major problems amyways.  Sorry.
