Horrible Squeaking Sound Coming From Truck.

Well i have an extremely loud, annoying, worrying squeaking noise coming from my truck. It only does it when i'm moving in forward and it increases in speed as i accelerate. Sometimes, when i let off of the gas, it will stop but it is usually continuous as long as I am moving. I'm not real knowledgeable at all when it comes to diagnosing something like this. Not sure if this would be just a loose belt or something. It's kind of hard to tell but it sounds like it is coming from around the middle of the truck. Just benind me while i'm moving. Does anyone have any insight on what possibilities this would be? Thanks in advance for any help.

A u-joint can do that,it will actually chirp the faster you go. The original joints might have no zerk fittings, the replacememts will, unless you buy solid joints. plowking

that sounds about right. The faster i go it definitely makes a chirping noise as i get faster the entire time. I guess i need to take it to a shop to have it looked at.

Put the truck in neutral and rev it a few times. If it doesn't do while you are stationary then it's definitely a U-joint or idler bushing.

I'm still searching out a squeak on mine, New Serp belt, and Alternator and the bloody squeak comes back from time to time.

I'll try that a little later. I don't think it's going to squeak though. I've never heard it unless i'm moving, mainly accelerating. How urgent/serious of a problem is this? Something that needs to be taken care of immediately?

Well,if you want to shake the driveshaft, see how much play it has. If it comes apart on the road and it is front joint it will dig into the asphault like a polevaulter and destroy everything behind it. You might want to check and do the carrier bearing while it is out. U-joints aren't a lot of money if done before it comes apart. My friends u-joint broke with a load of firewod on the back. He pulled the rear driveshaft and shifted into four wheel drive, front axle got him home. plowking

When you change your serpentine belt, you want to check your idler pulley. The can squeal or seize up when they start going bad. plowking

Yeah I noted that when I changed the Belt. I haven't changed the Pulley's yet. I might though just for piece of mind and keep the old ones around for spares.

The Pulley's didn't seem to be noisy but, they did seem to sound a bit tired. Not super smooth like they could be I'm sure... My truck only has 156,000 Kms on it so I would think there is a lot more life left in those pulleys but, maybe I'm wrong.

1. U joints 99% of the time, it is the joint at the rear axle. It catches all the salt and dust.

2. If you suspect a bad serpentine belt. Sprinkle some J&J baby powder on the ribbed side of the belt. (with engine OFF) then start engine. if noise goes away, it's the belt.
