Brake Controller Install Help!

I have a 1994 full size blazer. Already installed a 4 wire flat to 7 RV adapter (http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=HOP&MfrPartNumber=47185). I understand the basic wiring of the brake controller. My main question is.... the adapter has 3 extra wires coming out of it... one for electric brakes, reverse, and one for Aux power. is it necessary to run power to the aux power wire? If i don't run power to that, will my trailer brakes function correctly?

no... im pretty sure the brakes need power, most of the time there is a battery on the trailer itself that it charges so without that the battery would die and you would have no brakes..

so, the wire coming from the brake controller doesn't supply doesn't supply enough juice to engage the trailer brakes.... does it act as a signal wire??? sooo confused.

no battery on my trailer.... just a flatbed for hauling the tractor.

From what I know, that Aux wire only charges the trailer batteries. Doesn't have anything to do with the trailer brakes. So, if your trailer has no batteries, you should be fine without that one connected. Just like the the old 6 pin connectors...

Thanks Rico!! I had a brain fart before going to sleep last light, and decided to go count how many wires i had on my trailer, and i paid close attention where they were located in the plug.

 

Seems i only have 5 wires, right blinker, left blinker, taillights, elec. brakes, and ground.

The AUX wire has nothing to do with function of trailer brakes, with the exception of battery back up break away systems. If the trailer is disconnected from the truck a pin will be pulled from a switch, via cable hooked to the truck, sending trailer battery power to the trailer brakes, stopping trailer with out truck. The AUX wire charges this battery, or any other 12 volt accessory in the trailer. No battery or accessory, no AUX wire needed.

i know on our boat trailer it has a battery, and same thing with out fifth wheel.. but if you dont have a battery you dont really have to worry about it... like on my truck i have it hooked up just because if you are already running the elec brake wire you might as well run the aux power.

Thanks again all!! Install complete and brake controller/trailer brakes work great! Next on the agenda is putting a brake controller in the company truck. Anyone know if there's a plug and play option on an 03 Tundra with 7 RV factory plug???
