CamperD Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I think I might have posted in the wrong forum before as I can't even get a repsonse to the simple stuff - so since most everyone is over here - let's try a repost over here - below is a cut and paste form my previous post - i'm new to the forum and GM world - have had Ford before - but liked the newer Silverado's better. Need some simple help and some not-so-simple help 07 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab - "Navigation Radio-AM/FM Stereo. CD, CD-R, MP3" - listed on sticker at 2250.00 (see attached file)- 1. in the sound portion on the menu - I have only the "Talk" option available - where is the other choices as the manula calls out - this is LTZ Equipemnt group - so it calls out the "Bose Premium Speaker system" - but even without it - shouldn't I have the other sound equalization options? 2. The system looks identical to other systems - including ones with DVD - so is this just some features that have been turned off - and if so will the lock pick unlock these features - 3. Can you callibrate the Nav system? - Mine appears to be slightly off Thanks - I've attached the options section from the sticker - options_section.pdf options_section.pdf
DofD Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks! Is the radio option you have have the U3U RPO code? There are a number of different Bose configurations where I believe the audio capabilities are dependant on the amplifier. I can't find an online owners manual to check, but it does appear that the manual may cover capabilities that are only available with the lux amp and not the premium amp. I know in my Dad's Escalade which has the Bose Premium sound system, there is only bass and treble controls along with fade and balance. Yes, the non-DVD nav system looks the same as the DVD one, except it doesn't have the DVD logo. I also believe that the drive unit is only CD capable and also has software differences. Adding a lockpick won't give you DVD playback or give you features that don't already exist. There isn't any calibration for the nav system I know of, your dealer may have more information.

First off - thank you very much for the reply - Not sure what this even is or how I would know: "Is the radio option you have have the U3U RPO code?" But, I am willing to figure it out - it sounds like your Dads caddy has the same as mine and so I'm starting to assume it is just the system that I have - don't really need the DVD or such as a aftermarket system was added to the headrests already - just a new truck (for me anyways) and I am checking out every bell and whistle I got and I guess a few that I don't.
DofD Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 You're welcome. What I am meaning by the U3U RPO code is the option code for your radio. I would say that the option code for your radio (non-DVD nav) is U3U as listed model information book for your truck 2007 Model Info. You can also ask your dealer for a build sheet for the VIN of your truck which will list all the things it came from the factory with.

The owner's manual indicates that in the nav radio, only a preset "Talk" equalization is available. Probably the same with yours. Read your manual to be sure. 2. Yes, I believe so. Do a search on this forum. I believe there was a post not too long ago that discussed this very issue, and had a link to the appropriate product to unlock all of this stuff. 3. Not sure. Don't believe so. I have a TOmTOm myself, and I do not believe there is a user-initiable calibration. I do notice on the TT that every now-and-then it will "recognize" that it is off, and the car cursor will "snap" into the correct position all of a sudden, as though it did a quick self-calibration. ---------------------------- In having the opportunity to compare the GM in-dash system to a TOmTom, I must say that, IMHO, the GM system leaves LOTS to be desired. IT seems like they aren't using maps that are REMOTELY up-to-date compared with TT. I am still looking for functionality, in the GM system, that allows the compass direction to shift, such that North isn't always at the top of the screen. It gets tough when you are travelling south, meaning your cursor is travelling "down" on the Nav screen, to quiclkly figure out left from right prior to a voice prompt. I do not believe that the GM system allows you to set it up such that the cursor is always travelling "up" on the screen along with a compass to determine what geographical direction you are travelling. If I am wrong, or have not found that function, please let me know.

Thanks for the info - I will do the search - on your question about the heading on the NAV - on mine in the upper left of the screen on full view there is a little compass/arrow - if I press it - it switches between north up and heading up. Hope yours works this way as well as the north up is confusing. options_section.pdf options_section.pdf
jrrod2004 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I used to be an expert at this sort of thing, now it appears that GM made some modifications to the GMT900 series navigation (which inherently now support the GMLAN system). Yes as you point out, the compass can be 'adjusted' to directional or heading. The RPO code should be able to be found in the SPID lable in the glovebox. Yes the navigation system allows for calibration, problem is you cannot do it as a consumer. That has to be done either by the system itself or an individual that is armed with a laptop and the Tech 2 (GM Engineer). The older systems allowed for slight calibration.
fbachman Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Yes as you point out, the compass can be 'adjusted' to directional or heading. Excellent.... thank you
jrrod2004 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 though, I would simply recommend you rip out the old one and install an aftermarket...IMO...
