E-3 Spark Plugs

Just installed some E-3 spark plugs today in my 2500, was wondering if anyone else here has ever used them?

They claim better fuel mileage, increased power, reduced emmissions and longer engine life. I actually had a gift certificate to this online auto store that was going to expire soon and decided to spend it on some plugs. These were the only plugs they had, so with my $75.00 credit I only had to pay $6.90 for all 8 plugs. I did a search on the web about them and read alot of reviews from people that used them. Some claimed they actually saw better fuel economy and increased power, personally I don't understand how after all it's just a spark plug.

 

The plugs themselves have diamond fire technology and a diamond shape diode instead of a J shape. They look real nice. I've read some bad reviews about Ford owners using them, as they fouled out in Ford vehicles, but I know from owning Fords, that sometimes Ford's won't run right with non recommended plugs. Some other people noted that after using these plugs in their lawn mowers they used less gas and that their mowers started usually one pull in colder temps as opposed to regular plugs.

 

So after putting in the plugs, my truck did seem like it had a better throttle response to an extent, however I really didn't notice much difference driving around on the highway earlier today. I'll see if I experience better mileage over time, but really am not one to buy into hype. The plugs come with w 5 year/100,000 mile warranty which is cool. they cost about $8.95 a plug.

 

Just was curious if anyone here has ever used these plugs and if they noted any changes in fuel economy, and power ect.

I have no personal experience with them but from the horror stories from friends and co-workers I have stayed away.

 

IMO you cant go wrong with a tried and true. Acdelco, Bosch, Accell, etc... Either way please post your findings. Good luck.

Only thing I've noticed so far since installing the plugs, when the truck is in park and when I give it gas, I notice the truck rocks as in like a powerful myscle car would when you give it gas. I never noticed that before when the older plugs were in. Also seems like my exhaust sounds slightly more powerful as I give it gas while in park. More like as if the truck has more energy with throttle response.

 

I don't have the full DIC that tells you the mileage, and always could never pin point the exact science of figuring out mpg (Must be the A.D.D) hard at work. But I can tell when I use more fuel, especially when I fill up with different brand name fuel. Recently I've filled up a few times with Shell (Grades 89 and 93) and noticed I used more fuel up then I do when i fill up with Hess or Valero. I just topped tank off last night with 93 grade from Hess for $3.63 a gallon. E-3 plugs had a write up about better fuel mileage while using 93 octane, I read somewhere.

 

Like I said i will publish my experiences with these plugs, good or bad, and let everyone know if there are any differences over time.

i have them and i love them, btw they dont help gas mileage.....i also added the granittli or however it is spelled, wires. little bit more power and smoother idle thats it

A friend had 2 (seperate cylinders) of the electrodes fall off into the engine of his car about 2,000 miles after he put them in. Scored the hell out of the cylinder walls $$. Two different guys at work put them into their Silverados and both got worse fuel economy. Another friend put them in his wifes blazer and it constantly misfired. Went through 2 more sets and it always misfired. Finally replace them with another brand (Bosch I believe) and it ran like a top.

Have not tried them in a vehicle but when I replace the one in my string trimmer, it did start better. I use to have to pull start it 4 or 5 times but it cranked right up on the first pull. Since it was only one plug and the $4.99 I paid for it I figured it wasn't that bad of a deal. I spend more on stuff at our snack bar at work in a week.

Here's an update: Today when I went out to dinner, I noticed when I go to the restuarnt and the truck was ideling I can feel a vibration on the seats (never did before with other delco plugs). It was sorta reminiscent of an old school muscle car that was carburated. The tach needle was still and not moving,,but it did give me a concern to an extent. BTW what make car and model did your friend have in which this happened? I am now second guessing whether or not to purchase other plugs and use these in my walk behinds and Ztwo if they fit? I also heard about how people used them in lawn mowers and how their lawn mowers started right up and ran more fuel efficient.

No, they refused to cover the damage saying it had to be something he did during installation. My thoughts? Once is a mistake, twice is a f*ck *p. He ended up having the cylinders machined, new pistons and rings installed. He ended up suing them but it is still winding its way through the court system. It was a 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

...................................... if it was my truck they never would have been installed in the first place. Its just not worth the risk.

Again, another case of a Ford reacting to E-3 plugs. I've read other problems Ford owners had with E-3 plugs, and came to a conclusion that it is Ford vehicles that seem to have problems with non recommended plugs. Also told your story to a friend of mine who thinks that it could've been an existing detenation problem that caused the plugs to break off. If using a low grade gasoline like 87, also would not help the situation. Not that this could be exactly true to the bone, but is a possibility.

 

The only reason why I purchased these plugs to begin with is I had a gift cert for this online store and these were the only plugs they offered. I never heard of them until after I purchased them and did a little digging.

Maybe, but modern vehicles have knock sensors to control engine knock and prevent damage. Plus I dont see predetenation could cause the electrode to fall off two of the plugs. That and he always uses 93 octane in his car. I could be wrong, but I dont think that caused it.

 

Everyone; Please dont think I am ragging on anyone for using E3 spark plugs. I am simply publishing the events friends and co-workers of mine have told me about. If you have E3 plugs and they work for you then thats great for you. But, if it was my vehicle(s), I wouldnt chance it.
