Blackbear Midwest Group Tune

Recommended Posts

Posted

OK, Let's organize a group tune with Justin at Blackbear Performance for the Minnesota area (Minneapolis/St Paul).

Justin will travel for a group tune with at least 10 people committing and are willing to put down a $50 deposit.

Jenna, could you please fill us in on any more details and requirements. i.e. ECM/TCM prices, etc.

Count me in as #1.

Please note any preferred dates or dates that will not work for you. I am wide open for any weekend date.

Possibility for me...

My thoughts of locations (if we're including the rest of the "Midwest"): Des Moines (IA), Quad Cities (Davenport, IA), Dubuque (IA), Albert Lea (MN), Rochester (MN) - just thinking of a 'central' location, I'm cool with the TC too.

I haven't contact Justin before, so I'll need more info: which type of tune to go with (can you do a dual-tune, 89/93 octane), total cost is $200 right, how much TM to remove, etc.

Dates/Weekends for me: Oct 31/Nov1, Nov7-8, Nov14-15, Dec5-6, Dec19-20.

As posted, Justin will need at least 10+ confirmed (with deposits) tunes. We ask that you guys come up with a weekend (hopefully one that is not snowy and icy), sometime in the November time frame. I will check back in frequently to answer questions and to check on dates. As soon as a date is set, I will post up time slots for the weekend for your choosing.

The tunes will all be street tunes, and Justin will spend ~1 hr with each customer tuning their vehicle. The price for the tunes will be $200 (price is good through November). For those of you who are wanting to keep your stock cores, they will need to be purchased ahead of time, so Justin can ship them out to you to save time on doing the security relearn during the tuning.

The core charge prices are as follows:

$100 - Gen-III

$60 - 96-00 Vortec

$160 ECM / $60 TCM - Gen-IV Trucks and SUVs

We also sell e-fan harnesses (4 different harness configurations available, which will cover all 05+ Tahoe fans and LS1 style fans) and overdrive alternator pullies (to help with idle amperage). If you are interested in either of those, please let us know before hand as well so we can get those to you before Justin arrives.

Prices are as follows:

$105 for harness with pulley (shipped)

$89 just harness (shipped)

$30 for just pulley (shipped)

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Bump...

Mods, could this be made into a sticky?

With your avatar (the one during the time of this quotation) it should be easy enough!

Thanks for the info Jenna, here are some questions (or should I go ahead and email Justin?)...

- Updates are free, correct, I would just have to pay shipping (one way or both?); I was wondering because I plan on getting a Flowmaster exhaust in the near future & Volant CAI (truck is stock right now)

- Do you do dual-tunes? (I mostly run 89 octane, but occasionally step up to the 91/93 octane for performance, but not very often)

- Is a Security Relearn & Crank Relearn the same?

No, a security relearn can be done without any tools/software. It is just a process you need to go through to get your truck to "accept" your new computers and start up. It takes 3 cycles of about 10 mins each. That is why they prefer to have that done ahead of time. Otherwise it would waste 30 mins before even being able to start your truck to tune it.

Crank Relearn takes about 1 minute, but requires hardware/software.

X2 sometimes it can take over 45 mins to get this done and would take away from time for other customers there.

I could probably do it sometime in November, depending where it is. Twin Cities is only 4 hr drive for me.

Maybe I need to email privately also, but what do you guys do with E85? I run it 99% of the time. But there are times when I don't. When I visit my parents, it is hard to find E85 close to them.

Thanks.

Depending on when and where I'm in also, I'm only an hour away from Minneapolis. I'll wait for more details.

    • Without knowing how bad your banging is, one suggestion is the intermediate steering shaft on the steering wheel. These used to be a problem on 800 and earlier series. The feeling/sound was sometimes described as "clunking" and was felt in the wheel. Also there is a plastic piece in the lower column that is referred to as a bearing. Not your traditional looking bearing though. Your ball joints, bushings and tie rods or steering rack (if equipped) are the main point of issues. You never mention total unit miles, only that you've put 60k on it.   You can search the site for help on the ISS description. Plenty of these have been replaced   https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=site%3Agm-trucks.com+intermediate+steering+shaft&ia=web
    • Yes I have is set with the 1mm disk (Minumim Tension), for spring spacing and I raised my truck in the rear 1.5". You can go 2mm  and I think 3mm if you need.Minimum. We are on our way to TN from GA.. My wife is driving and stated she cannot believe  and   stated she can not belive the difference.
    • Most 1 ton trucks come with the factory overload spring, which need to be removed for installation of RoadActive Suspension. Removing the overload allows proper fitment and ensures the system works as intended. The RAS® Mega-Duty kit will reduce squat and provide significant improvement vs the factory overload spring.
    • I wonder as well, why they would send me a text message with links to these suggested procedures totalling over $10,000 without even the slightest hint of how they arrived at these being necessary.
    • https://precisionlubrication.com/articles/oil-filter-efficiency/     For them it is a problem of $$$$ and compliance. To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.
