Wood Trim Removal?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking I would like to replace the fake wood trim in my new Denali. I think it looks all-right but it's not really my style. Anyone know if it pops off? I have a feeling that some of it is glued in place or once you pop it off it will be damaged and you need to get new pieces.

What I would like to do is simply cover it with high grade automotive graphic vinyl. I have a lot of experience applying it and could do it with the pieces in place on the dash but it would be sooo much easier if I could take it off.

I think the wood looks pretty cheesy myself. I have not looked real hard, but I think there are kits available to swap out the fake wood pieces with the same brushed aluminum that’s on the steering wheel. If I get the motivation, I’ll be converting mine.

Yeah, I like the All Terrain's trim much better. I was thinking I would try out a few options with the vinyl and see what looks good. Piano black, or brushed aluminum are my first choices

Everything just pop's right off. Nothing is glued. I replaced all my trim with the brushed aluminum that's in the Z-71 Tahoes and Avalanches. Didn't break anything removing the fake wood trim. Just have to take your time and be careful.

Ordered it at a Chevy dealership, and it ran between $400-$500. Little expensive, but looks ALOT better!

$400-$500?!?!?!?......a "little expensive"???? Yeah, and Mt Everest is a little hill. It's about $2 worth of molded plastic for Christ's sake!!!

I hope they at least bought you dinner first. :D

No thanks, the fake wood don't look THAT bad.

$400??? Dannnggggg..... I was think two or even three hundred. I reckon it can be bought for less on line somewhere. Too many other things to spend money on now though.

Well, consider that they are GM parts. Of course they're gonna be the most expensive. But they also fit perfectly, which most aftermarket parts don't. Me personally, I would rather spend a little more and have it look the best that it can, than spend less and get less quality parts that don't look perfect. Just my opinion.

Post up a pic of the interior after... I bet it looks good.

Cool! How is it attached exactly and how did you get it off without damaging it? How about the center arm rest? Did that pop off as well?

I think the vinyl wrap thing will be a good affordable alternative if it works out. Plus, it will come off really easy if I change my mind later.

Everything's attached with metal clips. I just use a small screwdriver and popped the pieces out. I would start with a door piece around the window switches. That's the easiest peice to remove and you'll see how it attaches. I didn't take anything off the center arm rest. Are you talking about around the radio?
