Mounting An Amp Behind The Seat On The Back Wall

Recommended Posts

So, after abandoning all hope of putting my sub AND amp behind the seat in the back, I must settle for just putting the amp there to get my floorspace back.

I have all my new speakers on order, and hope to accomplish all of this in one weekend. My sub enclosure will stay where it always is, just getting a replacement sub :puke:

ANYHOW...those of you that have done this, did you just use Liquid Nails or Gorilla Glue and stick a piece of plywood or equivalent under the carpet to screw the amp to? This seems to be one method that I am seriously considering.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

The plywood secured with Liquid Nails or such under the carpet will work. Another option could be to use heavy duty velcro on the bottom of the amp (the hook part) and just let that hold the amp to the carpet. The amp itself doesn't vibrate so it only needs to stay secured for the movement of the truck. It also makes removal easy. I've done this to speakers at home to keep them from being moved around. It holds really well.

Wow, that is a very interesting approach. Will it really hold??

I haven't done the system in my GMT900 yet but on the GMT800 I didn't want the shop to put screws thru the back wall of the truck (as they tend to do if you don't tell them not to) so I had them glue a 1/2" piece of MDF to the back wall and the amp is secured to the MDF with short screws. It's been holding up great for almost 10 years. I plan to do the same in the GMT900.

Thanks, Dean. Yeah, this is what I anticipate doing, but the hook and loop idea above is pretty frickin' intriguing! I just don't know if it will support all that weight...

IMO, putting an amp on the backwall is much better than on the floor anyways.

Yep, a lot of people have used Heavy Duty Liquid Nail and MDF board with great results.

I would NOT trust Velcro.

Why not mount it to a board and put it under the drivers side seat. Thats what i did, less hassle, less chance of the amp overheating too.

Do you have power seats??

Are you using the stock sub enclosure in the center console?

I fit mine under the passenger seat. my passenger seat is manual so thats probably why yours wouldnt work.

I'm not sure, but I think he meant to apply the velcro to the bottom of the amp, and then lay it on the carpet under the rear seat, not hang it on the wall behind the rear seat. This won't work of course because your subs will be there.

Is there plenty of room for an amp behind the rear seat? Air circulation etc?

He must be thinking that. I have it mounted to the floor now, and have only one sub. I just want my floorspace back where the amp currently resides.

I want to mount it on the back wall as some members have with the GMT900. There is room, from what I can measure there is about 5 inches with the seat down. It will youch when folded up, so I just have to be concious of that.
