Nbs Wheelhouse Covers - Fasteners ?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am going to pick up some wheelhouse covers for my 2008 Silverado 2 WD ext cab. I have 2 questions:

1. Parts guy at one Chevy dealer told me he needed my VIN to get the right p/n. Couldn't he get it right knowing it's an ext cab, 2 WD, 1500 ?

2. Do I need to get any special fasteners with these covers?

thanks,

Mike

They will give you all the screws and push-pin rivets you need to install them, you don't need to buy anything else.

And yes,The dealer "should" be able to get you the correct ones just by you telling him its a Chevy (They are different for Chevy's and GMC's) However.....If he ask for it give it to him,It makes our job a lot easier if we have the VIN,As a matter of fact anymore I won't look anything up without the VIN,Theres just to many part numbers to choose from these days!!!

Where can we get these cheap? My local dealer wants $103 plus tax, and it seems to me like I read about someone selling them for 65?

Sorry to hijack.

Thanx. :puke:

Thanks Dale ! I do understand about the VIN - especially with these trucks - dayam - there's just so many different twists !

No problem hogpower - it's a good question.

Blackout - thanks for the link. My local dealer wants about $90, and the gm parts direct wants $26 to ship so it's a little cheaper to buy local - plus as Dale says - they'll probably give me the fasteners free at my local dealer.

Anyone know if those liners will fit in the backseat of a Taurus ? It's a lot easier for me if I can pick them up on the way home from work.

They should fit,You might have to take them out of the box if they come in one,The last few sets I've ordered from our GM accessory distributor didn't come in a box,They were just tie-strapped together with the bag of fasteners hanging from them.

BTW....You don't really need any fasteners,The liners fit sooooo tight, once there in there, there not coming out :D

Thanks Dale . I do remeber one guy here saying that he did not use the fasteners either - they were so tight.

"Once they're there, they are not coming out".

Tight or not, use the fasteners. If that insert comes out and causes someone riding a motorcycle behind to crash, GM will blame you for improper installation.

Trust me Pete....These things ARE NOT coming out!!! :D

Nope,Not while they were in. (I've since taken them out...they collect to much dirt and "crap" under them)

I cannot get any liners for my '06 truck so I undercoated the wheel wells. So far so good.

I think that is the cheapest and most effective way to fix this issue. Use fast drying rubberized spray on undercoating, and make sure you mask off adjacent areas. You will be amazed how much overspray will get on your paintwork if you do not!

Do not use brush on undercoating, as you may lay it on too thick, it may crack and trap moisture underneath and cause corrosion.

Even more important than protecting the bare metal in the rear wheel wells is coating the creased edges on inside bottoms of doors and the lower edges of the hood. I used the CRC corrosion inhibitor for this. Here is the problem - I believe the unpainted metal edge is folded over and then just the outside painted. What wrong with this picture? Moisture gets in and starts corroding the metal! CRC corrosion inhibitor will create a water proof barrier that will keep all moisture out. I use this stuff on zinc plated fasteners outside and it keeps corrosion even off of my boat trailer zinc plated lug nuts when they are immersed in salt water. You can buy CRC corrosion inhibitor at many auto parts stores or boat stores.

I do the same thing Pete!!! Except I use something from KENT Industries called "Inner Panel Rustproofing Inhibitor" (Probably the same stuff as the CRC) It sprays out kinda' like WD40,Then thickens-up and dries to a tack free finish that, like you said, creates a barrier between two panels!!!

I also use it around the hood striker on the hoods of our trucks,That seems to be the first place that starts to rust,Like you said...they fold over the panels then coat/paint them, leaving the "under" surfaces unprotected.

So you would recommend just doing undercoating instead of the liners? I had a place quote to spray the wheel wells and it was $80 basically the same price as the liners. I used that spray on can stuff before and after a few years it turned brown. I was holding all the dirt and sand from the winter roads.
