Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. Gotta be honest, I love these forums, I can spend a lot of time and learn a lot by reading. My issue is not a huge one, but I would like to know a little more about my truck. I just bought a 2001 Silverado 1500 with 65000 miles. It is extended cab 4x4 with the 5.3 liter. I really like it, a lot. The only real issue it had when I bought it was that the fuel gauge was not working properly. I learned that the sending unit was on the fuel pump and replaced that. It works great. Also, replaced the intermediate drive shaft to stop some of that Chevy steering vibration at low speeds. Everything on it is now great except one thing that bugs me. My tranny seems to function really smooth, it shifts well and everything. However, when I am braking, I can really feel the tranny downshifting from 3-2 and 2-1 just before I stop. I can see the RPM gauge jump up as it downshifts. I don't think this is normal, since I have had a couple other trucks just like this before and have never noticed this. Any ideas? I was thinking of having the PCM reprogrammed, to make sure the shift points are correct, etc. Is this a good idea, or do you guys think I may have further tranny issues? Everything is stock right now.

Welcome!

At 65K I would be surprised if you have serious trans issues. Most are going well over double that. Of course, we don't know what the previous owner did to it.

I'd service it and change the filter before I tried any "fixes".
