Trouble Code P0446

My 03 Silverado started showing the check engine light. After using my code reader and getting that it was a emission problem I took it to the shop. The solenoid for the evap canister was bad, and $400 later I left the shop. Two days later the light is back with the same code . The part was warrentied, so I took the truck back. Now they want to replace the canister. According to them, this is common to the 03. Am I being fed BS. How common is this problem, or is this just keep replacing parts till the light stays out. Any thoughts??? joe

Replaced the vent valve solenoid on my 05 1500 2 or 3 days ago. 160.00 for the part and installed myself in about an hour. The canister may have got gas in it from over filling the tank, possible. Have you replaced the gas cap, unlikely the right fix... Hope you get it resolved and it don't cost to much.

Original Cap and if gas got into the canister, will it dry out?

If you drive a lot of dusty roads the canister can get clogged with dust. This has happened to me twice. There is a filter on the vent solenoid, remove it, clean and replace. Disconnect the three lines from the canister and blow it out with compressed air. Blow from the tank and engine fittings. A lot of dirt came out of mine. It's been two years since the last time I did it and all is OK.
