Dic Reprogram

I am sorry I do not have much time to look through the search feature on this board before I have to run out the door.

 

I put a new steering wheel with the controls on my 06 Sierra CC that did not orginally have that as factory equipment. I just got a call from the service manager and he said they are unable to get the steering wheel controls to work.

 

The info that I have is you hook up a tech 2 to the truck down load info, call GM help line and tell them your adding the DIC and they send new code to the tech 2 then you go back to the truck and upload the new program.

 

I spent a lot of money getting the new steering wheel and clock spring harness and now its looking like I spent a lot of money for nothing.

 

Can any of you techs out there help me or help me help the techs at my dealer?

To get a VCI # they call the normal technical assistance number and wait for the prompt for TECHLINE SYSTEMS instead of the normal technical assistance. Then wait for the prompt for a VCI #. I believe there is a new standard charge of $50 to obtain a VCI so that would be tacked on to whatever they were going to charge in the first place for base programming.

So I am trying to add UK3 and UJ6 (DIC and TPMS) would they charge 50 for each? What exactly is a VCI number?

 

I am talking to the tech through the service manager so I am sure I am missing out on a lot of the info. I got a call back after they called the GM tech line and they said they will not support what I am trying to do to the truck. I have no idea if he called the normal tech ass number or talked to someone on TECHLINE systems.

 

The manager said his tech could do it if I found a truck with the controls on it but if it didn't work I would also need a truck with the same equipment that mine does to get it back the original programming. Any thoughts on this??

I asked them if they spoke with the TECHLINE systems guy and they said that is who they talked to and were told that they do not support that kind of update. Of course that is me talking to the service manager and him talking to the shop foreman and him talking to the tech and back again so who the **** knows. I tried to talk to the tech directly but "he was busy"

 

Any thoughts?? Wish I could be a little more hands on with this problem.

I'm not sure why, but it appears on the 06' trucks something was done to prevent us from adding features. I had the same problem when I tried installing the tpms system on my 06 sierra. However, there has to be a way around it. On my truck they could not program my pdm to turn the tpms on because the tech 2 said that my VIN did not come with this option, so I went and bought a pdm out of a yukon with it already turned on and this was my fix. Good luck figuring out how to work around this issue and please let us know how it turns out.

That is some good info. I already have a PDM with the TPMS on it. I purchased it along with the sensors themselves. I spoke with a Chevy dealer this week that seemed more than willing to help me out with this issue. I have a Sierra so I guess we will see how this all works out.

 

You now have me wondering if I need to install that PDM before I have the truck reprogrammed with the new VIC codes.

I just swapped out the module, turned on the truck and the TPMS light was on, I programmed in the sensors and the light went off, the DIC then displayed my tire pressures in each tire.

yes you need to program the fobs first....I bought the pdm off of ebay for 35 dollars and it came with brand new fobs, so I programmed the new ones in
