Leveling Kit Questions............

Ok so I keep hearing about a leveling kit for my truck(2007 1500 NBS 2wd ext cab)

 

what do i need to know to do this right?

 

do I just go with the 2 in kit that goes on the front coil/struts

 

 

or I see this 2.5 kit with a 1 in rear block for the rear

 

what is the difference/or what size do i need to go with to keep it level? does this make my truck sit a bit higher like the 4wd's?

 

also I am getting a set of 18 in wheels for x mas (going to get some matte black wheels and keep the similar tire size as far as height and width and am going to run the destination at's) I dont hink these new wheels should affect anything but wanted to throw it out there! any help is appreciated!

 

PS I also see there is some 2 in kits that go at the bottom of the strut/mount vs the spacer type on top is there really any difference between the 2 or does one vs the other affect handling/ride quality

It all depends on how you want to go. If you just want to level the front off, you don't need one that puts a block in the rear. If you want to pick the back end up a little too, then go with that.

 

For leveling kits, Rough Country makes a good one for the GMT900, it's what I just put on my truck last week. I used the link in this sites Tech Wiki as a good guide:

Go to Rough Country's web site and look up the P/N, but I think it's 1307 for this body style - works with both 4x4 and 2wd. That's all I know about the leveling kit. I didn't want to mess with the back end since I don't have a lift or anything that would make it easy to release the leaf springs enough to put a block in.

 

My truck came with the factory 20's and they're no problem, and obviously adding a lift doesn't do anything to affect the wheels/tires when they fit before the lift.

I put the leveling kit on mine - the one with no blocks, and it's within 1/2" or so. I think that's pretty good, I didn't want to go overboard and have the truck go nose up when I put something in the bed.

The way is see it, you have 3 choices:

 

1. The rough country (and other bottom mount kits) are the easiest to install and seem to be no better or worse then a top mount solution...also inexpensive.

 

2. top mount - more difficult to install, more expensive to buy, some kits require you to cut some threads off of the mounting bolts

 

3. Bilstein shocks (posted here recently)...you can level up to 2.5" with this kit and the shocks are longer to accomdate the lift (not necessary at 2" lift but still closer to the "right way" of doing things. The rear shocks are 1" longer then stock but will work fine without 1" lift in the rear.

 

IMHO the Bilstein Shocks are the best solution but cost is considerably more then the Rough Country. I have the RC kit on mine and I have no issues with it after 16K miles but I still think I'm going to eventually go the Bilstein route.

Just ordered the rough country kit. looks like 2 in is the way to go as 2.5 may be a bit much and may require adjustments to the control arms according to RC

 

also they recomend only going 1 in larger on wheel size which will work perfect as I am going with 18's
