Seat Upholstery - Replace Just Fabric, Or Whole Seat?

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra with cloth seats. The guy before me apparently smoked, and burnt cigarette holes in the driver's, passenger's, and center seats. If I want to keep the same fabric, can I get OEM fabric replacement covers (exactly the same as what I have now, but new), or do I need to replace the whole seat? Does the current fabric come off easily? I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for in search, so hopefully someone can clue me in here? Thanks! :idiot:

You can just replace the existing seat covers with new ones. You don't need to replace the whole seat.

You can replace the covers.

One other option would be to search car-part.com (or locally) for a salvage company that has seats out of the same year or newer truck. You might get whole nice seats for much less than your cost of recovering... and smoke the smell in your seats will still be in the foam if you recover them. You can never get that crap out.

Any ideas what the covers are worth? Also, does the underside of the flip-down console come off (the 'back' of the middle seat)?

Okay, well I just got back from the dealership. They quoted me over $700 per cover for just the 'butt cushion' portion of each seat, and over $200 for the center 'console seat' cover. Needless to say, I won't be going for that. Not sure where to go from here. :idiot:

I replaced my fabric seats with Katzkin leather, and they are sweet. They replaced the existing fabric as opposed to covering it. Their website is quite good as it allows you to try out the different options and leather colours to give you an idea what they will look like. I think at the end it was about $700.00 delivered to my front door.

You can contact leather seat cover business for cloth take offs, and search E-bay, for stock upholstery covers. The bottom, driver's seat cushion, GM number is 12473892, at 133. retail, my cost $53. priced July 06, when I bought it. The upper center seat is expensive, $487. retail, my cost $249. You can buy a complete jumper seat, on E-bay for $99.- $249. A complete front seat, from a junk yard, I was quoted $600.+. If you go this route, get fully powered seats. I had all 3 seats reupholstered, for $300. in 94 Chevy medium grey (outer edges and center seat) , and 87 silverado material, (back and lower for contrast). The back of the center console, is removeable but be careful. There is a tab to release, in each rear corner. Check if the lower cushion is the same for 03, as 99-02.
