boots69 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Can anyone give me some diagnoses to this problem? The truck when driving will lose all power and shut off when driving. Then, it will restart for a moment, but not stay running. The truck can run for days and not do this or run for an hour and do it. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens. The fuel module on top of the motor has been replaced and the convertion kit added to keep it cool. It had a new injector pump installed in 2005. It is my understanding that GM had major problems with injector pumps with these trucks. So much so that they are warrantied for 120,000 miles. Am I correct? Is there a way to test your injector pump? Thanks for any help in advance.

Did you start with the easy stuff first? change filters..check water separator. sometimes some bad fuel can deposit crap in the lines coming out of the tank. With all the damn computer crap and sensors we dont look at the first things and right away look at the electronics. What it sounds like is happening is fuel delivery is intermittently lost or deminished and its sucking itself dry and stalling out. That makes me think more of a blockage or a bad seal or o ring sucking air. Seems to me the lift pum either works or doesnt. I kind of think the injection pump would be a consistant problem also. Or if the first pump out of the tank is electric you could have a bad connection. You also didnt say if the truck was generally running great or if it has some lost performance all the time. Only after eliminating the basic fuel systems would I jump to injection pumps and computer gizmos. Injection pumps might be something best left to a pro. Hope you get it worked out. MR
