Stupid Things You've Done With Your Truck

Gather round children, it's story time. What stupid nonsense have you done with your truck?

Almost a year ago, I was fishing with a few friends at one of their places. We stayed out there and shot the shit until we left well after dark. I got into my truck and started driving across the field towards the gravel road. I was concentrating on making a sharp turn to sqeeze through two trees when BAM! My forehead hits the steering wheel. WTF did I hit?!? I get out and find that I ran into a steep washed-out ditch. *facepalm* The front tires were suspended in midair, the bumper was holding up the entire front end of my truck! I get my friend to pull me out of the ditch, then I head on home to inspect the damage. Guess what? The bumper was perfect, it didn't even mess up the license plate bracket :D

I could've sworn you said "sheep in a washed-out ditch" when I read it the first time.

My shining moment was going wheeling illegally in a field with bald Revos one day into a 3 day nor-easter.

All those pictures are after it had 12 hours to start to dry out, when I got stuck there, it was a SWAMP (it almost swallowed a backhoe.). Something I left out of the thread: As soon as the towing company got me un-stuck, I was pulling right out onto the road, and a cop 'just happened to be driving by'. :D At first I thought it was just a shitty coincidence, but when the company found out they had to pull out a truck that was trespassing, they probably had to notify the po-po. Didn't get a ticket, so it doesn't really matter.

Probably more than I can remember

But the one I'll share was in college with my 99. It was 11:30 on a Saturday night, and I was driving a buddy back from a party. Both sober, but stupid. Red light turned green, did a little power-brake on almost damp pavement . . . smoke, squealing tires, 60 mph shortly followed by a city cop. :D

He was nice enough about it. He told me he could take my license for being 30 mph over the speed limit. But he just gave me a "careless driving" ticket = $40. Better than a HUGE speeding ticket or "wreckless driving."

Sadly, I have no stories to tell or anything impressive. I've never been blessed with four-wheel drive so I really just don't bother going into mud. When I have to go into mud I'll use my tractor and when that gets stuck I'll quit whatever I'm doing and go home.

I no how you feel, about a week ago me and a buddy of mine decide to do alittle wheeling. I have a zr2 and he has a dakota. So on the way from work we stop at this field. were everone goes arpund here. Im the first one to get stuck. The chain i have ends up breaking so we take a ride in my buddys truck to a friends house to barrow one. Then on the way back his truck bottoms out on a rut. His rear end and frame was sitting on thre ground. After a few calls we get on friend to come down with his 2500. Thing didnt didnt do crap. Than a friend came down with his ranger. did the same. then a friend came down after work with his silverado with mud tires and yanked us both out after about 45 mins. then he was trying to show that he wouldnt get stuck. So we needed to have anouther friend come down with his ram and get him out.

We spent 5 hrs there and let me tell you im buying a winch.

My worst story is while I was in high school. I had a 68 Chevy straight 6 with a 3 on the tree 2 wheel drive. That thing went everywhere any of the 4x4 went without much problem, sometimes just more gas and way more clutch. I was with a neighbor girl a couple years older and we went down to the river to "play". On the way we got stuck in the mud, I didn't want it to end the day so I tried and tried to get out. It eventually ended up with the rear bumper and the front wheels on the ground. We had to walk out about a 1/2 mile and we called my mom from a farmers phone. It took a front loader 3 come-along winches and 2 cases a beer to get it out. Needless to say she never went back down there with me again.

HAH, back in my college days ( 3 years ago) me and my one of my old roomates jumped in my 88 Silverado RCSB. and Joined the other guys in one of the dorm parking lots whippin cookies in their cars, and the others pulling sleds behind their pickups. Not 10 mins later I hear my roomate say Hey I think thats a cop. I turn around to see a State Patrol car coming towards us so I dropped it into 4wd and we hauled ass outta there and ditched my pickup behind a big snow pile by some girls dorms and ran back to our room to watch the action. The Other cars only got some warnings!!

Way back ****ing when (ten years ago) I had a 89' GMC Jimmy with the EFI 350, lifted on 33's  . Anyway I was getting trashed talked by a Branco owner and I attempted to cross a small pond. About half way through I hit slick bottom and got stuck. Water over the seats. Took me a week to dry it out and get the mud out. I was running a rear Detroit and a front Truetrack and still got stuck. After that I bought a winch and a Warn brush guard.

The Bronco driver got drunk and went on the country club's golf course. He went to jail for a couple years. So in the end I win.

my old toyota (tacoma 4x4) saw most of the abuse. jumped, drowned, beaten and put away dirty daily. i didnt have that truck a month and i buried it in a mud pit up to the windows, and i was the only one on the other side of the river. (noone else thought they could make it across) that was a damn tough truck, i had it for 3 years, wheeled it weekly, and it started and got me to work every day i owned it.

I was doing a customers lawn and when I got by the post rail fence, I noticed the front canister wheels were wet. Well instead of slowing down and risking gettting stick, because Ztwo's get stuck very easily, I continued the cut path to the end on the yard, then was going to turn right. Well at that point for some reason I slowed down and then got stuck. My nephew was working with me that day, and we had to unhitch the trailer and use the truck to pulll the Ztwo out. I had my nephew operate the truck, because he wasn't familar with the Ztwo, and told him to give it some gas, while in 4wd, so the truck wouldn't spin out on the soaked lawn. Well the tires being so aggressive, and him giving it too much gas made the truck dig into the wet lawn like sand, and the plow frame then prevented the truck from moving. It sunk down to about mid way on the wheels and had to call AAA to winch me out. I tried using my wifes blazer, but that had not a prayer on pulling my 2500 out. I was stuck there for 5 hours! Also had to fill in the deep ruts with top soil and reseed at my expensive, which was no big deal.

It would be alot helpful if Ztwo's came in 4wd, as they seem to go out of control on inclines and if it's wet out, they can become very unruly.

Then one time, I got stuck on my DW in the snow, and the truck was like 2" away from a tree "which would've damaged the trucks body if I fish tailed"had to cut the tree down, then drop the truck into 4low, then with the raw TQ was able to free myself.

Then got my F250 stuck, while the Aframe ont he plow got hung up on a parking curb at a factory I used to plow. A DOT plow truck tried pulling me out, but the chain snapped. So thats when I put it in 4low and was able to get unstuck with raw TQ. Then alos got hung up and stuck while stacking snow on a customers driveway at 3 am, winded up waking him up too with the noise of the tries and engine reving. Oh I hate the feeling of getting stuck with the truck, it's like "Man, if I only bought that winch for the truck" but the only question, is where to mount a winch on my truck, I can't in the front because of the plow. So now these days I am very careful and know the limits in most situations, and that lawn the tends to be soaked every Spring season, I walk out there to make sure it isn't too wet.

The worst predicament i got in with my 98 was about 3 years ago, a bunch of us figured it would be fun to go out to some local water falls, the only thing was its was late spring and no one had driven in yet, it took 5 hours to get in were it normally takes 2 but it didn`t help i got stuck ina creek, (see picture) I got high centered on the receiver and the front frame of the truck...Darn good thing my buddies tracker had a big winch!

Well, Done plenty of dumb things in a truck, but my best stunt with my (former) 1953 Pontiac Chieftan takes the cake. Jack Daniels was driving (never let him drive, he sucks) and he wanted desperately to find a private grassy spot to "discuss" the joys of premarital sex with a most engaging lass. Needless to say the perfect spot was just across a shallow and easily navigable Vermont stream. It appeared that many before me had made the trek across by the looks of the dirt road on either side. I learned a lot about height of the axle verse depth of the rain swollen brook that day. It turned out to be a farmer's favorite spot to drive his 9N across.
