Modifying the stock radio

Recommended Posts

I have the stock in dash CD Player with a tape deck also.  I want to add a SAS Bazooka bass tub to the truck (the ones that are already amplified), and I am wondering if there are RCA jacks in the back of the stock radio?  I don't want to take the radio out to find out yes/no ( I was hoping someone already knew!).

thanks

I'm 99% sure there are no RCA jacks on a stock Delco radio.  Never took the one out of my '99 but the others I've seen didn't have them.  The General never plans for mods that we want....

just watch out for the pop ups at first (i apologize).  We have a few stereo upgrade topics going.  There are a few guys who have done alot and are very knowledgible.  Also you do not need to register or sign up just post away

I think the hot ticket would be to locate the rear speaker wires.  Buy a four-channel amp, use the rear speaker leads to feed the amp, with a line-level reducer ahead of the amp.  Then feed the sub and the rear speakers off the amp with a cross-over to feed the right frequencies to each set of speakers.  Mount the amp under the rear seat or to the rear cab wall and no-one will know the difference...till you turn up the bass!!

Do you follow what I'm suggesting?  I can get more specific if you want.

Good info guys, I will have to consider the finances.  I am hoping to get the K&N Gen II Fipk, and was hoping to do a simple amplified bass tube, but perhaps custom enclosures would be a good temp fix, until I can do what 76BBSub is talkin about (which I follow you, and that is a great suggestion - if I go that route, I will definitely want more detail!).

Thanks.

  • 1 month later...

I got the box from a local shop here in FLA. It wasn't cheap though (about ?.00), the Silverado box comes preloaded with a JL 12" W3 sub, it sounds more like two 12" subs, no better way to go, it's worth the money. You can check them out at http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/index.html

I'm also getting a baby EQ added today in the space where the factory CD player sits. I don't use the factory CD player anymore since I got a new deck, it just sits there . I will post pics soon. http://www.picturetrail.com/bsmith_tsg
