Removal Of 2008 Gmc Grill

Howdy ya'll... I was hoping to not have to start a thread because I can't help but think this has been covered ad nausem. But, the advanced search engine just didn't do it. I have used "2007 grill removal" , "2008 grill removal". I have substituted "remove". I have used "2007 grill" , "2008 grill". There are lots 'n lots of topics of removing the bowtie, the grill emblem, and the front speaker grill removal.

 

On my 2005 and 2003 Z71 trucks, this was a very easy thing to do. I am certainly sure it is just as well with the newer trucks. Just that things are 'different' and I don't want to break any clips.

Once you remove those 4 screws (2 in each fender), the upper bumper cap will snap out, BUT it takes quite a bit of force. Be careful.

 

I assume you figured out how to remove the main grill's screws and clips already?

It does take quite a bit of carefully applied force. It feels like you're going to break something, but it WILL release. This was, by far, the most difficult step in the entire process...

I wouldn't say it was the most "difficult", but it was the most nerve-racking. Once I figured out how to do it, it was a piece of cake. I would say the hardest part was releasing all those damn clips on the inside of the main grill.

I was heading in that direction and then stopped when I saw the assembly wasn't quite looking similar to my earlier trucks. I've learned not to break any of the clips or plastic holders. Also, the trim bugged me. Now, I know what to expect, but decided to stop until the forum offered resources.
