Most Likely Stolen Accessories

Recommended Posts

I'm considering several GM accessories for my 2008 Sierra Denali, but I'm concerned about theft. Please offer your own opinions and/or experiences as to the likelihood each may get stolen, as well as any tips you may have on preventing theft:

Oval assist steps

Chrome exhaust tip

Chrome mirror covers

Chrome tow hooks

Chrome fuel door

Thanks in advance for your kind replies.

The only tips I can think of that might get stolen would be the Corsa tips. But, even that is probably unlikely. The rest of it? Mirror covers, tow hooks, and fuel door, in particular, I just wouldn't see much of a market for selling those...

From what I've seen on here, I don't think I've seen anyone say their assist steps were stolen, although I have seen quite a few threads about wheels being stolen...

If someone wants it, its gonna get stolen. It doesn't matter what it is. As Michael stated, theives would be more interested in the wheels. Better resale value for the work involved in stealing them.

If I lost sleep worrying about my stuff getting stolen I wouldn't have a damn

thing. Though it's sad, there are people out there that would steal a blind man's white cane, and even his dog.

I see drive an 08 Denali, I think thieves would be more likely to just take your whole truck and the accessories would just be a bonus to them.

Of the items in your list, only the mirror covers can be removed "quickly" and without tools. I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree.

I think you should let somebody steal the chrome fuel door BEFORE you install it. I never understood that "accessory".

The question should be do you live in a place where things are stolen on a regular basis... If the answer to this would be simply not to buy the accessories...

But if theft is not an issues by you than I wouldnt worry about it!

My wife's side "GTP" badges got stolen off of her Pontiac a few years ago, although I'm still not sure if it happened in our driveway here in suburbia, or in her parking garage in the "big city". For several weeks after it happened, I drove around town looking for 16 year old kids driving Grand Prix's that were formerly base models, and were now suddenly "GTP's"!

At any rate, I can easily see some kid with a screwdriver at 3:00 a.m. wanting my chrome tail pipe for his own rig. Maybe I just answered my own question.

Rumor has it that I do have a garage. Everytime I open the door, I see nothing but cardboard boxes, a lawn tractor, and a square acre of other crap that prevents me from putting a car in there. Hey, wait a minute, are you that kid with the screwdriver that ganked my GTP badges??? I mean, uh, yeah, I've got a garage. And an alarm. And a rottweiler. Don't bother coming by!!!
