Burnout..

My truck has lots of "go" we'll say, but it cannot do a burnout for the life of it.. i have a buddy with a 03 4.8 with 35's and 3;73 gears in it and can smoke all day long and my stocker cant even turn them over unless its a dounut.. i can turn the traction and stibili off and it almost seems like its still on kinda.. is there anyway or anything that can control this or is this just the make of the beast and have to upgrade from the 3;42's??

GM's factory programming on drive by wire trucks do not let you do burnouts.

You can have your computer reprogrammed (tuned) to remove all of the GM nannies on the engine and tranny. But if you break something and have to have it repaired under warranty, they will probably be able to tell that you altered the computer.

I havent altered my truck, but there are several guys on here that have. Just do a search for Blackbear and there is a guy named Justin that you can send off your modules to, to have programmed for a nominal fee.

On another note, just for comparison, I am able to disable my traction control/stabilitrak stuff with the button on the dash and can leave 6-8 foot black marks on the road from a stand still.

I have a 2007 crewvcab 4x4, 20in stockers, G80, 3.73 gears, and 5.3.

I have only done this a few times, but I can tell you that from my experience, the burnouts were a lot weaker when the truck was new compared to now. I have 22k miles now, and the over all performance of the truck feels much better now that i have gotten it broke in; in my opinion.

Keep in mind drivetrains have a memory and remember what you do to it, it might not break now but it will greatly reduce the life of the drivetrain and get you later.

Keep in mind drivetrains have a memory and remember what you do to it, it might not break now but it will greatly reduce the life of the drivetrain and get you later.

Please refrain from posting incomplete or misinformation. There are options to prevent them from knowing you tuned your truck. Keep your stock modules and buy a second set for tuning for $220 (for the set) and they will never know you swapped them out.

Yes, doing burnouts and driving like an idiot will reduce drivetrain life (with or without a tune), but tuning your truck will not. In fact, with a proper tune and common sense, you can ADD life to your drivetrain with a tune.

That's why you get an entirely new set of modules and have those tuned instead so that they cannot see any change to yours. Swap the old one back in before your trip to the service department. I haven't done this myself but it is common practice.

I've had at least "a" custom tune on my truck for 30,000 miles and my latest being a blackbear tune. I currently have 153,000 miles. Not sure if it's really impacting my long term reliability. I also drive it like I stole still. In fact, Justin thinks this might be true that the increase in shift pressure from the tune is actually holding my transmission together longer.

Ummm ok what ever , just because I wasnt perfect on my reply it still stands. Two friends of mine are service managers one is for Nissan and the other is for Chevrolet and what they have told me is when someone comes in for work being engine and drivetrain related while being under warranty on a case by case problem that they are sealing the modules or computer at the connection so if they are removed they will know if the seal is broke when it comes back again. Just letting you know what I have been told and what to look for. But this reply will probably still be incomplete or misinformation.
