07silverbirchz71 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 First time post. I know this has been asked a million times before. Just trying to decide between leveling kit, body lift or suspension lift. If I go with a leveling kit, can I do a body lift later? Trying to determine how high I can go w lift/tires and still fit in garage. Does a leveling kit require any cutting/alteration of stock components? Thanks in advance.

If you do a leveling kit I see no reason why you could not add a body lift down the road. The leveling kit is basically a spacer to add to you front coil spring set up to give you the extra height. A body lift is adding urethane spacers where the body mounts are. As far as cutting/altering stock componets it depends on what brand you go with. I personally do not have any experience with any of them. You may wanna try a search and see what you can find, try leveling, or perhaps the brand you were looking at (truxx) for example. EDIT: I wrote this pertaining to a GMT900 truck. If you have a 07 Classic (GMT 800) You wanna stay away from leveling kits as all they do is re-index your stock torsion bar keys and allow you to crank the torsion bars farther, which leads to a stiffer ride and steeper cv angles. This also can cause suspension parts to wear out faster. Crank your stock bars 1" - 1.5" any farther than that and you could be asking for trouble. A body lift is still ok to use with a leveling kit, no matter what truck you have.
BuckFeverZ Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 If you go with a leveling kit that mounts on the bottom of the strut, there will be no cutting. If you decide to go with a kit that mounts on top of the strut, you will have to cut the OEM studs with most kits. If you don't cut off too much of the stud, it can still be returned to stock. If I remember right, if you go with the top mounted Ready Lift, you will not have to cut the studs.
