Wheel Warntee Question?

Recommended Posts

So I took off my factory chromes for the winter and was cleaning them today. On the inside of one wheel there was a pretty significant peace already starting to de-laminate. The truck was new in Sept and has under 10k so I'm wondering if this is worth a trip to the dealership? What do you guys think?

Edit, excuse the dam topic spelling....

the bumper to bumper warranty should cover this. If the defect/damage was caused by the materials or workmanship, it should be covered. If it was covered by anything else, then no - you are on your own.

I really don't see what else it would have been caused by? I just took the wheel off and cleaned it and there it was.... Anyone else have similar problems?

Brake cleaner will take the clearcoat off - other than that, who knows?

It doesn't take a PHD to figure that absolutely anything could have gotten on a wheel in 10,000 miles. You could try having it warrantied and see what happens.

GM clear coated or chromed wheels are junk. My truck sits in the garage most of its time and yet my clear coated wheels are already showing some signs of corrosion under the clear coat. I have seen wheel clearcoat pitting on a brand new '07 unsold 2500 truck sitting on a dealer's lot. That should sum it up for what junk these wheels are.

My wheels should be absolutely pristine at this point. We have no snow or ice here in central Florida and the truck has seen rain only once. GM gave me runaround about the wheels - took it to the dealer on the last day of factory warranty - they told me that they would only re-clear coat them while the truck would sit on a rack inside the service bay or outside the dealership. But they use some local outfit, not a GM approved company, so I am skeptical about this.

Guess I'll stop by the dealership when I have time to see what they say. It would seem that with only 10k this shouldn't be happening....
