Truck Cap Help

I am thinking about getting a cap for my 08 crew cab 2500hd shortbed but i can decide. I would like one but it is hard to justify the cost. Does anyone have one on a new style truck yet,(hows it fit). I am thinking of a LEer 100xq. Or should i just stick with my soft cover ???? Any thoughts?????

I have an ARE, forget the model #. I paid around $1100, got it with felt liner and fold down front window. Works fine, no complaints.

I like my Lear but after 4 years it is starting to develop a small water leak around the third brake light. No big deal and an easy fix. This is my third or fourth Lear and I keep going back!

Leer is OK for some sport caps, "STAY AWAY" from the DCC contractor series with Leer. Had nothing but problems since the start. Dirt in paint, door panels came dented from factory, poor welds, light paint in some areas. They tried to rebuild it once and it was a little better than the first try. Local dealer in Boyertown, Pa was a joke. Their attitude was "thats what you get" for $2700.00. Mine was made in Milton, Pa so I don't know about the other factories. No sense compaining about it to Leer because they tell you that they need the cap for several weeks to fix. They know that you need the cap for your tools. Looks cool from about 20 feet away for a work truck. If you are a contractor go with the ARE. Saw some built recently and are much better. If you you do go with the aluminum contractor series add the bed rail cap protecters it will help with the flat surfaces on the bed and cover the stake pockets. Hope this helps someone.

I have a Leer on my truck and so far have been very happy with it.

I've only had it for 6 months though.

To answer your question, is a topper a need or a want? I need mine to keep tools and materials out of the weather, out of sight and secure. I. think the fiberglass color matching toppers look great. They also turn a crew cab into one big SUV.
